Ryan Moore has a decent book of six rides on the second day of Newmarket's Craven Meeting, including a big chance on Matrika in the Nell Gwyn Stakes...

  • Veteran Regal Reality among the form horses

  • Matrika has strong claims with stable in good nick

  • Handicap mark looks okay for Kalpana

14:25 - Gasper De Lemos

We had four in here at the five-day stage and we rely on Gasper De Lemos. After a promising debut, this Justify colt won his maiden in very good style at the Curragh before finishing second to what looked a smart horse in Arabian Crown in the Zetland here.

We are happy with him coming into this race but he will be suited by further down the line and I am always wary of an Andre Fabre horse, and his Narkez won very well on his return. And there are clearly others with claims, too.

15:00 - Regal Reality

He has run some good races when fresh in the past and hopefully the ground remains decent for him, though he has winning form with a bit of dig, too. As a 9yo, he has to give a few years to all of his rivals and he would be vulnerable to an improver like Royal Rhyme, but he has run some very good races on this track, including when a narrow second in the Joel Stakes here in September. He is among the form horses here on that run.

15:35 - Matrika

Dance Sequence has looked pretty good in winning in both her starts, including the Oh So Sharp Stakes, but I don't think my filly is far behind her, if at all.

Her only defeat came in the Albany at Royal Ascot, when second to the subsequent Cheveley Park winner and Breeders' Cup runner-up Porta Fortuna, and she did it well for me in a Group 2 at the Curragh subsequently. We didn't see her after that win in July but the fact that she is here speaks for itself.

Aidan has his horses in very good nick and, while she has plenty of speed, I'd have thought she will get the extra furlong here okay.

But there are a few promising horses in this, and this certainly isn't a straight match between us and the Godolphin horse, for all Dance Sequence is the hot favourite in here, I see.

16:10 - Amestris

I don't know much about her at the moment, to be honest - I guess we are all in the dark, given the nature of the race - but hopefully the fact I have been booked for the Mehmas filly is a positive.

16:45 - Bolsena

Her debut effort looks the pick of the form in this, and she didn't run badly on her return at Newcastle last month. The advantage of a recent run is an obvious positive. A reproduction of that opening run at Haydock last September gives her a decent form claim, as I said, though of course this is another race full of unknowns.

17:20 - Kalpana

This is the first time I have ridden this Juddmonte filly, but she has clearly made a decent start to her career, winning on her debut at Wolverhampton and then finishing second under a penalty to what could be a smart enough winner at Newcastle last time. An opening mark on 78 looks okay, and maybe the step up to 1m2f will suit, too.
