Ryan McCue reviews the first day of Royal Ascot and looks ahead to Day 2

"Maljoom was very unlucky not to win, he's definitely the horse to take out of the race. We actually pushed Coroebus out to 3/1 from 9/4 for the Sussex."

Day 1 of Royal Ascot has come and gone but fear not, as we've barely touched the surface, and Ryan McCue is on hand to reflect on the action as well as look ahead at tomorrow's card...

How impressive or not was Baaed today?

We've gone 4/7 from 4/6 for the Sussex & 6/4 from 7/4 for the Juddmonte. We didn't learn anymore about him that we already knew today but he done it very easily again and I suppose showing that the consistency is there and that he can turn up every day he runs and put in a big performance meant we felt the need to cut him slightly for both of the races mentioned.

Fresh opposition on his next start would be nice as he's basically beaten the same horses twice this season, but he'll be a short price again on his next start regardless of opposition.

Same for Corebous. Win or lose?

He scrambled home really, Maljoom was very unlucky not to win, he's definitely the horse to take out of the race. We actually pushed Coroebus out to 3/1 from 9/4 for the Sussex.

Only a length covered the first 5 home so anytime that happens in a Group One especially I think you have to question the strength of the form.

Although we got the price wrong on him from a compilation point of view it meant we were under what the general price about was, so it wasn't the worst result for us albeit plenty would've had him in their multiples.

How we looking after day one? Describe the day so far.

From a singles point of view, we haven't had too bad of a day as we were out to get Golden pal & Blackbeard in the earlier races but plenty of customers have Baaeed & Coroebus in their multis, so we'll be hoping a few of the shorter priced horses throughout the week get beaten!

Nature Strip was hugely impressive in the Kings Stand & we've gone 6/4 for the July Cup and have taken a cut to Home Affairs who's now 15/8 off the back of Nature Strip's win.

What would you be backing in the MB race tomorrow?

I think Ruler Legend will run a big race at a decent price and with our offer he'd be the one I'd be on. He was impressive at Naas last time when running out an easy winner having drifted over to the stands side of the track. He's had a nice break since that win presumably with this race in mind so hopefully he can run well at an ew price.

What is your Day 2 NAP?

Little Big Bear was well touted even before he made his debut and he's done very little wrong in his two runs to date. He was narrowly beaten on debut before running out an easy winner last time at Naas. I wouldn't be surprised if he was well above these so although he's a short enough price, I think he'll win
