Andrew Asquith outlines the Timeform view on day two of Royal Ascot

"...she will be very hard to beat if progressing as expected..."

Timeform's Andrew Asquith highlights a Nap, Next Best and Each-Way selection on day two of Royal Ascot on Wednesday.

NAP

Ascot - 14:30 - Back Beautiful Diamond

Betfair Sportsbook paying 4 places instead of 3 in the 14:30 at Ascot

Beautiful Diamond cost 30,000 guineas as a yearling but her sales price rose considerably to £360,000 at the breeze-ups earlier this year and she looked a smart prospect as she made a winning debut at Nottingham a fortnight ago.

She was very professional that day, soon in a prominent position and leading over a furlong out, impressively moving clear of her rivals from there. The time of that race was good, but her performance can be market up even further when taking sectionals into account, and she has already run to a level good enough to win an average Queen Mary. Beautiful Diamond is entitled to take a step forward now and she will be very hard to beat if progressing as expected.

NEXT BEST

Ascot - 17:35 - Back Gregory

Gregory is from an excellent staying family and he looked well above average when making a winning debut from three previous winners at Haydock in April, impressing with the way he was able to cope with a falsely-run race over a mile and a half given the stamina in his pedigree.

He confirmed himself an excellent prospect when following up in the Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood last month, still showing clear signs of greenness but really motoring once he found his stride at the finish. Gregory is sure to relish this step up to a mile and three quarters and, open to significant improvement - he still has the Timeform Large P attached to his rating - he is likely to take a fair bit of beating.

EACH-WAY

Ascot - 17:00 - Back Perotto

Betfair Sportsbook paying 6 places instead of 4 in the 17:00 at Ascot

Perotto shaped particularly well on his debut for Roger Varian in the Victoria Cup over seven furlongs at Ascot last month.

He attracted support having fallen 2 lb below the mark in which he won the Britannia from in 2021 - over the same course and distance as the Hunt Cup - but he was unfortunate as the race that day developed away from him.

Perotto left the impression he will also appreciate the return to a mile and has almost certainly been targeted at this race since. There is lots of pace in the high numbers, so his draw in stall 30 looks ideal, and he seems sure to go close having been dropped a further 1 lb in the weights.
