Horse racing tipster Mark Milligan has gone through Friday's racing action and has come up with three bets on the Betfair Sportsbook...

  • Handicap newcomer to strike in South Wales

  • Gosden maiden open to significant improvement

Ffos Las, 14:35 - Back Mountain Of Light @ 7/18.00

This is just an ordinary handicap in ratings terms but it is a bit more interesting than most at this level given several of the runners come into it in good form.

The one to beat may well be Ralph Beckett's nicely-bred Kingman gelding Stone Of power, who was pulled up two starts back but quickly put that behind him as he got off the mark at the seventh attempt. There could clearly be plenty more to come from this one, but it has to be a concern that he couldn't complete less than a month ago, while his stable still isn't in the best of form.

I'm going to pass him over in favour of the lightly-raced filly Mountain Of Light, who ran her best race to date when second in a maiden here last time and is open to plenty of progression making her handicap debut.

She's another with a useful pedigree and could end up well treated starting out life in this sphere from a mark of just 70.

Mark's Bet of the Day: Sandown, 15:35 - Back Algaihabane @ 3/14.00

Staying on the theme of well-bred types, John & Thady Gosden's Algaihabane is a Dubawi half-brother to Group 2 winner Qilin Queen and he could improve markedly making just his second start in this 7f maiden.

The selection made his debut just nine days ago at Kempton and clearly plenty was expected of him given he was sent off a very solid 11/10 favourite on the night. However, he proved much more green than the market expected, failing to settle fully and then looking a little clueless when asked for his effort, eventually staying on to finish seventh without being given anything like a hard time.

An entry in next month's Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket suggests that Algaihabane is well thought of and it's encouraging that his powerful stable sees fit to turn him out again so quickly following that initial run.

I'm expecting to see a much different horse this time around.

Sedgefield 18:40 - Back Jeteye @ 9/43.25

It's over the jumps we go for the day's final selection and West Yorkshire trainer Sam England sends a strong party of runners to Sedgefield for their evening meeting.

The pick of them may well be Jeteye, who has done the majority of his racing over hurdles in his career to date but switched back to fences at Cartmel last time and ran out a game winner.

Jeteye is all about stamina and this even longer trip should show him to good effect, while he doesn't look at all badly treated compared to his hurdles mark when you consider he has been raised just 1lb for that Cumbrian success.

Chief among the dangers may well be Mickey Bowen's Getaway Vic, who is unexposed over fences himself, but he does have top weight to carry and his mark doesn't look overly generous based on his third at Worcester on chasing debut last time.
