  • Katie Midwinter has selections across the cards on Tuesday

  • Son of Sea The Stars could bounce back for Closutton

  • Well-bred mare can achieve black-type

Punchestown, 13:20 - Back Amen Kate E/W @ 8/19.00

Five-year-old mare Amen Kate shed her maiden tag over obstacles with a comfortable success as the 1/31.33 favourite at Galway in October, having finished a 13-length third to Carrigmoornaspruce in her hurdling debut at Listowel the previous month.

There should be more to come from the daughter of Augusta Kate, and the step up in trip could bring out further improvement. Her dam was a Grade One winner over the intermediate distance of two-and-a-half-miles, and was also competitive over three miles, suggesting an extra 3f could allow Amen Kate to pose a threat under Sean Flanagan.

In a Listowel bumper on debut, Amen Kate beat Carrigmoornaspruce, who would go on to achieve Grade Three glory at Punchestown, reversing the form, before she went on to finish a creditable fourth to subsequent Champion Bumper winner Bambino Fever in a Leopardstown Grade Two at the Dublin Racing Festival.

There's substance to the form she has shown already and she has the scope for more improvement. With a classy pedigree, the daughter of Flemensfirth, who fetched €75,000 as a three-year-old, can achieve black-type and shouldn't be discounted at this level despite being up against some unexposed rivals.

Uttoxeter, 13:30 - Back Oh My Johnny @ 5/23.50

Five-year-old gelding Oh My Johnny didn't fire when sent off as joint-favourite in a recent run at Warwick, but should improve for that return to action following a 242-day break and can fare better from a 1lb lower rating here.

The Philip Hobbs and Johnson White-trained contender is stepping up in trip for the first time over further than an extended 2m3f under Rules, but has prior point experience when a faller at the last in a Loughrea contest.

His dam Milan Dancer was a four-time point winner and half-sister to the talented Vinndication, who was rated as highly as 159 when finishing fourth to the brilliant The Conditional in the 2020 Ultima, and also placed second to Cyrname in the Charlie Hall Chase as well as beating Champ in a novice hurdle.

On pedigree, Oh My Johnny, who also related to Listed-placed three-mile winning Moohono, trained by Aidan O'Brien, should have enough stamina to be suited by this extra distance and has that previous point experience which should hold him in good stead.

During his novice hurdle campaign last term, he won twice, including at this venue, and was unfortunate to fall at the last when in the lead at Bangor-on-Dee too. The runner-up from his maiden win here, Knead A Win, has boosted the form and is now rated 120, whilst Reallyntruthfully, who was a close second to Oh My Johnny at Hereford, has won twice since and is now a 129-rated chaser.

Punchestown, 14:20 - Back Sea Of Sands E/W @ 15/28.50

Willie Mullins-trained Sea Of Sands is unlikely to have shown the best of his ability since switching to Ireland from the Jean-Pierre Carvalho operation in Germany.

A dual winner on the Flat for his former trainer, including in a Hoppergarten Group Three Derby Trial, the son of Sea The Stars has shown enough class to achieve Stakes level success and has also shown glimpses of potential as a hurdler.

On debut for Closutton, Sea Of Sands recorded a comfortable five-length win over The Mediator, before being sent off as joint-favourite for the Cesarewitch under William Buick. He raced much too keenly at Newmarket to have any impact on the race, in a run worth forgiving, and was able to bounce back with an eye-catching third to stablemate Tounsivator in a Fairyhouse Grade Two.

On that occasion when placing at Graded level last December, the gelding made good headway late on from the rear of the field under Patrick Mullins, travelling into contention well with purpose. He wasn't able to build on that effort when upped into Grade One company at Leopardstown over the Christmas period, but had excuses having been found to be clinically abnormal post-race.

Since then, however, he has struggled to make much of an impression and his latest run was disappointing when tailed off in the Irish Cesarewitch. That run was too bad to be true and, on his return to hurdling, he could be worth keeping the faith in considering the talent he has shown in the past.

The yard has landed the previous two runnings of this race and, although they're well-represented in this year's renewal, with seemingly more fancied contenders among the eight runners, Sea Of Sands is too good on a going day to be ignored and can pose a threat if able to bounce back from his latest run and return to form under Brian Hayes.

Uttoxeter, 15:00 - Back Zambezi Fix E/W @ 9/110.00

At this level, from a mark 8lb below his last success, likeable gelding Zambezi Fix should be able to pose a threat in the hands of in-form 5lb claimer Ellis Collier for Bernard Llewellyn.

The experienced ten-year-old will be suited by a testing two miles with proven form in soft and heavy conditions and he appears well-treated at the weights.

Earlier this year, the grey finished second in a higher class handicap from a 3lb higher rating, and also finished a respectable third to now 138-rated performer Knickerbockerglory, only four-and-three-quarter-lengths behind 151-rated runner-up Nemean Lion.

Although Zambezi Fix may be past the peak of his powers, he is on a handicap mark from which he can be competitive and has proven he still retains plenty of ability on a going day. He finished second in both of his final two runs of his previous campaign and could improve for his return to action at Newton Abbot in October.

One to consider, Zambezi Fix, who also has form with now 154-rated Kabral Du Mathan as well as subsequent winners King William Rufus and Non Stop from Kempton last year, makes appeal at odds of 9/110.00, and could add to his four career successes to date.

Newcastle, 19:00 - Back Yellow Lemons E/W @ 9/110.00

Despite being a 16-race maiden, Yellow Lemons has shown ability for Katie Scott and could be worth sticking with as she seeks the first success of her career.

The daughter of Siyouni finished a creditable second at odds of 20/121.00 over this course-and-distance in October and appears from the same mark of 46 this time around. She was a decent fourth at the track recently when beaten only a length-and-a-quarter, proving once again she can be competitive on a going day.

Having been in decent form recently and from a workable mark at this level, this could be the time for Yellow Lemons to finally strike and shed her maiden tag. Under Darragh Keenan, who has a decent record for the yard, the four-year-old filly makes appeal at a price of 9/110.00.

Newcastle, 19:30 - Back Run This Way E/W @ 12/113.00

Another contender to consider in the penultimate handicap at Newcastle is Run This Way for Paul Midgley.

The seven-year-old mare, who makes her 49th appearance in this sprint, is 15lb lower than her latest success at Ripon last year and, although yet to fire on an all-weather surface, cannot be discounted from a low mark of 51.

She was beaten only a length-and-three-quarters at Redcar in her previous Turf outing, proving she retains ability, and is now 3lb lower rated than on that occasion.

Over this course-and-distance in October, Run This Way was able to finish a respectable two-and-a-quarter-length fifth to The Real McKay, also proving her capabilities on this surface, and she could be worth keeping the faith in based on that effort.

At odds of 12/113.00 under David Nolan, Run This Way makes each-way appeal and can make the frame on a going day.

Newcastle, 19:30 - Back East Tyrone E/W @ 9/110.00

Making his third start for the Philip Kirby yard, East Tyrone is one to note from a low mark of 52 in the hands of Cam Hardie.

The son of Mehmas shaped with some potential on occasion for former trainer Kevin Ryan, finishing second on his Doncaster debut before shedding his maiden tag in a competitive 13-runner York handicap, outrunning odds of 16/117.00 to prevail over Sir Palamedes.

Gelded following his maiden success, East Tyrone put in creditable efforts behind Station X and The Green Man in subsequent starts but has failed to build on his Knavesmire win. He's now 15lb below that winning mark and hasn't been disgraced in two recent runs when sent off at odds of 33/134.00 and 14/115.00 respectively at this venue.

East Tyrone was beaten only two-and-a-half-lengths from a 2lb higher mark here in his penultimate outing, before catching the eye from the rear of the field following a slow start when last seen.

The three-year-old has shown enough ability recently to suggest he can return to the winners' enclosure, and this could be a nice opportunity for him to do so at a price of 9/110.00.
