Katie Midwinter has four tips from Warwick, Redcar and Newcastle

Horse Racing tipster Katie Midwinter has four selections to consider at the Warwick, Redcar and Newcastle on the Betfair Sportsbook this Tuesday...

  • Fences could be the making of chase debutant

  • Archie Young could be a jockey worth following at Redcar

  • Popular veteran is on a handy mark

13:50 Warwick - Back Kintail @ 4/15.00

Three runners head to post in the feature on the card at Warwick and, whilst these small field contests can often be tricky to predict, at the prices Kintail makes plenty of appeal and represents value, as he is inferior on ratings and lacks experience. Despite this, he has shown some ability and his pedigree catches the eye, appearing to be a horse who should come into his own as a chaser.

He's the sole runner on the card for Nicky Henderson, who has started the season well, saddling a number of winners with many of them returning after a break. The yard has consistently achieved a respectable strike-rate during November in recent years, indicating Kintail could be fit and ready on his seasonal reappearance.

By top National Hunt stallion Blue Bresil, who has a 52 percent winners-to-runners strike-rate with his progeny over fences, and out of Speedie Bonnie Boat, whose dam, Sail By The Stars won 50 percent of her runs over fences and whose half-sister Lucy Glitters produced Grade Three placed chaser Theatrical Star, who amassed over £100,000 in career earnings, there is plenty of class in the pedigree.

His dam is also related to Listed winner Alegralil, whose ill-fated son Tedham showed promise as a chaser with a victory and two seconds in five starts, and his dam's sire Alflora has a 41 percent winners-to-runners win ratio, with his most successful progeny achieving black-type over fences.

A half-brother to consistent hurdler Kyntara, who finished second in the Pertemps Network Final at the Cheltenham Festival before competing in the Grade One Sefton Novices' Hurdle at Aintree, Kintail should improve for a fence, and this trip should suit on pedigree.

The sounder surface is a slight concern as he has been withdrawn on account of unsuitable ground twice earlier in the year, however, at this stage of the season, with plenty of rain having fallen over the summer, it shouldn't be as quick as it may have been during the spring into summer, and he has won a bumper on good to soft ground.

Although Rambo T has prior experience over the larger obstacles, and the benefit of a recent run, Kintail is a younger, more improving type, who's unexposed and capable of showing the most progression.

Skycutter, although well-bred with classy relations, isn't guaranteed to be a natural chaser on pedigree and, whilst he may take to this new challenge and has shown some ability over hurdles, Kintail makes the most appeal with a standout pedigree which suggests he should show his best over fences.

14:00 Redcar - Back Loyal Touch E/W @ 7/18.00

Loyal Touch has been kept busy this year with plenty of appearances and three wins, the most recent of which came over this trip at Pontefract on his penultimate start. He has never won consecutive races, but has been able to bounce back from disappointing efforts to return to winning ways as he's shown on three occasions this season.

Conditions will suit, and the Charlie Johnston yard have saddled a few winners in recent weeks, including on Monday with Archie Young claiming 5lb in the plate. They team up again here with Loyal Touch, who remains on a workable mark only 4lbs higher for his win, which should allow him to make the frame. He beat Box To Box from a 1lb lower mark earlier in the season, proving he can perform from a similar mark, and he makes each-way appeal.

15:44 Redcar - Back Magnetic North E/W @ 12/113.00

An intriguing runner for in the finale at Redcar is veteran performer Magnetic North. A recent recruit for Rebecca Menzies, the Irish-bred gelding has made two starts for his new yard, finishing down the field twice having never been in a position to threaten.

The first start was over an extended two miles, a trip over which he has struggled to prove his stamina in the past, whilst he's now dropped 4lb for his recent effort on Turf at Pontefract, in softer conditions over a mile-and-a-quarter in a run which he may have needed.

His last win came over the shorter trip of an extended 1m1f at Ballinrobe, having previously won over a mile at Gowran Park, both in claimers.

He copes with softer ground conditions, and has been most effective over shorter trips in recent seasons, suggesting this assignment should suit him well and he could begin to show his ability in England. With 5lb claimer Archie Young aboard further easing his weight carrying burden, the son of Born To Sea isn't one to discount at each-way odds of 12/113.00.

17:00 Newcastle - Back Orbaan E/W @ 16/117.00

Experienced and popular Orbaan makes his 62nd racecourse appearance, seeking his seventh career victory as he attempts to bounce back following a number of disappointing efforts.

Sent off at odds of 17/29.50 when well supported for the Golden Mile at Goodwood in August, Orbaan was given no chance of progressing during the race after being stuck in a pocket on the rail and badly hampered.

That was a run worth putting a line through and he appeared well handicapped from a mark of 87, potentially capable of putting together a string of good performances. He was unable to justify favouritism when 7/42.75 at Beverley on his subsequent start, however, when slowly away and unable to land a blow on his rivals. He has then been eased twice in races when appearing to lose his action, but has been given a break since his most recent start at Haydock two months ago, and could be refreshed and ready to return to form here.

Whilst he's often needed the run in the past when fresh, with bigger targets ahead, he isn't in the same scenario here, and he had shown he retains plenty of potential during the summer.

At this level, from a mark of 85, he's impossible to ignore, and, if he is over any issues and he's fit and ready here, he should be good enough to make the frame at least, and has the potential to win on a going day.
