- Neck third here last month
- Cheekpieces appeared to help; kept on today
- Step up to 7f could suit
Today's most backed horse is Gold Medal in the 20:00 Kempton. Having opened up at 10/3, Richard Hughes' horse is now the clear 2/1 favourite this evening.
The three-year-old has been largely disappointing since his 6f novice win back in March, but the introduction of cheekpieces have significantly improved his performances.
Having finished second at Wolverhampton at the beginning of October, Gold Medal arguably put in an improved performance when third at Kempton.
He only finished a neck third behind the eventual winner, having made headway out wide within the final furlong.
Betfair punters believe he was desperately unlucky on that occasion, and he has another opportunity to put that right this evening.
This is a step up in trip from that performance last month, but the way in which he finished strongly indicates he's worth another crack at the trip.
Gold Medal's main market rival is Ring Of Gold 4.57/2, who has also received market support this morning.
He only managed fifth when last seen at Wolverhampton over 1m1f, and it's worth noting he was denied a clear run when second at Southwell over 1mf the run before that.
However, the five-year-old won over course and distance last December, and despite remaining on a five pound higher mark, it's interesting to see his move in the market.
Yet despite some attention on Ring Of Gold, there's been more support and confidence in Richard Hughes' runner, who is searching for his third winner in the last 14 days.
