Today's Horse Racing Tips: Quickstep Lady can dance into the winners enclosure

Newmarket Runners
Andrew Balding can take this handicap again

"made no mistake at Goodwood when last seen, winning in very impressive fashion suggesting there will be more to come"

It's the start of the three day Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket and Alan Thompson has a selection from HQ as well as an interesting jumper at Perth...

Quickstep Lady can show these a clean pair of hooves

Andrew Balding knows what it takes to win this race having landed it in 2016 and again in 2019. His charge today Quickstep Lady sits at the foot of the weights and the three-year-old filly was turned over when sent off 4/11 favourite at Windsor last month. However, she certainly rectified that error and made no mistake at Goodwood when last seen, winning in very impressive fashion suggesting there will be more to come. This Class 2 event is undoubtedly a step up for her on handicap debut but with Andrea Atzeni in the plate and despite running from 2lb outside of the handicap, I expect to see a bold showing.

Betsey Trotter is the current market leader, David O'Meara's five-year-old mare won a 19 runner handicap at Thirsk last time out and despite getting a 6lb hike in the weights for it, that now puts her off the same mark as when she last won on the all weather last October. She is a main player in this but that was only a Class 4 handicap she won at Thirsk and this is a different league.

Big Penny was well backed on her last visit to Perth

Back Big Penny @ 5/1 in the 13:10 Perth

The opening race on the card at Perth is an interesting Handicap Hurdle race where Big Penny, who was well backed into 3/1 favourite when last seen at Perth, was brought down after the eighth fence so didn't get an opportunity to see if the money was right and show her hand on that occasion. She is only 3lb higher though today and arrives here off the back of two very good placed efforts at Southwell. Adam Wedge was on board the eight-year-old mare in both those Southwell races and he gets the leg up again today, I think Big Penny could be there to prove a point and I expect to see her run a big race.

Milanstorm is the worthy favourite and one to beat, he is well handicapped on his bumper form and gradually looks to be getting his act together over hurdles. But the gelding has only had three starts since January 2019 and all three starts have been after lengthy layoffs (112, 250 & 224 days). So he is obviously not straightforward and at the prices I would rather be taking him on.
