Franconia has to be given another chance
Back Franconia @ 4/1 in the 14:25 Newmarket
Their are three daughters of Frankel in this Group 3 Fillies and Mares race, the favourite Alpinista, Queen Daenerys and the one I fancy, the John Gosden trained filly Franconia. This race has been a happy hunting ground for the Gosden team in recent years, winning four times since 2012 and I think they have a good chance of picking up a fifth victory today.
Franconia ran an absolute stinker in the Yorkshire Oaks but she was clearly amiss on the day and for me she deserves another chance. Prior to that run the filly won two Listed races back-to-back and she can get back to winning ways today as she goes back in calmer waters. She is the second best rated filly in the race but I think she is progressive and can reverse the form with Alpinista, who finished ahead of her that day in the Yorkshire Oaks.
Atalis Bay can get the hat-trick at Haydock
Back Atalis Bay @ 7/2 in the 16:00 Haydock
After making a promising start to his career, Marco Botti looks to have a useful two-year-old in the shape of Atalis Bay. The Colt first caught the eye when winning a 15-runner maiden at Windsor in August and then quickened clear impressively, despite showing inexperience, to score at Kempton on his latest outing. He's been given an 8lb rise for that win, but 5lbs of that is removed by Stefano Cherchi's very useful claim. He's looks a highly progressive type and this drop to the minimum trip, in my opinion isn't going to stop him making it a hat-trick of wins.
Riffa Wonder is another on the hat-trick trail and similar to the selection he has gone up 9lbs for his last impressive win. He certainly made the most of his low mark and plum draw at Chester last time out and while I am sure there is still more to come, I think he might find this contest a bit more of a challenge.
