Timeform on Greatgadian
Zinc White has a pedigree chock-full of stamina, so it was no surprise to see him show much improved form upped to a mile and three quarters at Wetherby last week. That race was run in attritional conditions - they abandoned the meeting afterwards - but Zinc White relished the emphasis on stamina, having plenty in hand at the line despite pulling too hard to in the early stages. Connections wisely turn him out under a 6 lb penalty and he looks a handicapper to keep on the right side of.
Greatgadian underwent a breathing operation over the winter and showed improved form under a penalty when runner-up to a well-bred newcomer at Windsor on his return earlier this month. He rather threw the race away on that occasion by wandering in the closing stages, but he remains with potential and an opening mark of 87 could underestimate him now stepping up to a trip he is bred to appreciate.
Highland Avenue landed the odds in good style on the all-weather on his first two starts this year but took his form to another level with a smooth success in the Fielden Stakes at Newmarket last month. That form has been franked by the runner-up and Youth Spirit, who won the Chester Vase on his next start. That was over nine furlongs and on good to firm ground, so Highland Avenue has to prove himself as effective on likely slower ground, but the drop back to a mile won't be a problem and he can confirm himself a smart colt.
