Today's most backed horse is Magic Conqueror to win the 15:00 Roscommon. Having opened as big as 41.040/1, Michael Kennedy's horse is now amongst the favourites at 5.04/1.
The five-year-old has only had three runs to date, finishing third from five runners at Naas on debut in a bumper, just five lengths off the winner on that occasion.
However, Kennedy's horse hasn't built on that since, finishing 10th of 11 at Limerick before being well held at Tramore on his hurdling debut back in June. Yet it's worth nothing that the market didn't expect she to produce a particularly good run on that occasion with an SP of 41.040/1.
It's worth noting that Kennedy had a winner from just his fourth runner in the past two weeks, when Presenting J bolted up at Listowel on just his third start.
It may be that Betfair punters were taken with that particular performance and with just the one runner today, we may well see an improved performance from Magic Conqueror.
Beyond Ambitious is the current market leader having won a bumper at Wexford, but has been rather disappointing in her two runs over hurdles, failing to get into any kind of rhythm at Ballinrobe when she was just 7/4 to produce the goods.
Howaya C D And E won a bumper at Downpatrick by six lengths before finishing second at Bellewstown and placing once more when finishing third at Downpatrick. However, although she is deservedly towards the top of the market, she hasn't quite looked like progressing and appears to be vulnerable if there is an improver in this field.
With a weak market leader, it isn't difficult to see why Betfair punters have been looking elsewhere for a winner and with Kennedy off the mark for the season, he may well be worth sticking with.
