Timeform on Maximal

13:25 - MAXIMAL (7) is bred in the purple and ran to a very high figure for a beaten debutant at Newbury last month. That was an above-average event, and a repeat of that will most likely suffice, though he is open to any amount of improvement on top of that. One Ruler also showed plenty of ability on his first run, while Mithras and Aquaman could be the pick of a interesting bunch of newcomers.

14:00 - DAVE DEXTER (5) has struggled for consistency since his two-year-old days, but bounced back to his best to capitalise on a falling mark at Chepstow just over six weeks ago. A subsequent 3 lb rise for that win isn't excessive, and he's taken to go in again for the in-form Ralph Beckett team. Mountain Peak is better than ever this year and he should make his presence felt following his win at Haydock last time, ahead of Benny And The Jets.

14:30 - HYANNA (5) almost overhauled Look Closely at Ascot last time and has tasted success over course and distance in the past, so a chance is taken on her to go one better in what looks an open race of its type. Victory Chime will likely make the running and will ensure the selection has to work and the improver Muraad certainly warrants consideration for an in-form stable.

15:05 - A strong Group 3, featuring two former Group 1 winners. They look the obvious pair to focus on, with QUADRILATERAL (10), who has Ryan Moore taking over in the saddle, narrowly preferred to last month's Falmouth runner-up Billesdon Brook. Quadrilateral is yet to better her form from last year, but she remains with few miles on the clock, and could hardly be in better hands, so she is worth persevering with. Last year's winner Lavender's Blue may prove best of the rest.

15:40 - ETONIAN (4) created a good impression when striding clear on his debut over course and distance last month, defying big odds but looking a good prospect, and he can make it two from two with improvement forthcoming. King Vega and Dinoo are others who offered enough on debut to suggest they can make their mark at this higher level, while the front-running Dubai Fountain brings some very useful form to the table courtesy of her Sweet Solera second.

16:15 - A case can be made for all of these, so at the likely odds ACCRINGTON STANLEY (5) is worth siding with as he has been crying out for this step up to seven furlongs and now gets his chance on his nursery bow. Wolverhampton-winner Dandys Derriere is much respected, along with top-weight New Mandate, but their stamina isn't guaranteed under the forecast conditions.

16:50 - A clutch of improvers here, and now that Sun Tide is a non runner, the one to be with is A LA VOILE (3). She has showed improved form to win both of her starts this season, doing it very easily upped to this trip at Windsor last time, produced to lead over a furlong from home and just pushed out to assert, having more in hand than the winning margin suggests. A subsequent 6 lb rise underestimates her and she is fancied to record a hat-trick.

17:20 - A tricky race to finish the card. CALCULATION (4) made an underwhelming return at Newmarket in June, but he'd taken off when stepped up to this trip last year, so is worth another chance to pick up the progressive thread with this stamina test more in her favour. Yellow Tiger remains unexpsoed as a stayer, while Fire Jet is another who could go well with her reappearance behind her.
