Easterby's Pursuit to finally collect one at Ayr

Trainer Tim Easterby was in flying form on the first day of the Western Meeting with a trio of big-priced winners, and he can collect the big prize of the day with Flying Pursuit in the Ayr Bronze Cup.

This will be his easiest assignment at the track for a while having previously finished third in the Gold Cup in 2018, and an honourable fifth in the Silver Cup 12 months ago behind his stablemate Golden Apollo.

Last time out he went off too hard in a race at Doncaster, but he's so well treated these days from 82, he has to remain of interest.

He stays 7f, which is always a good quality to have in these competitive sprints on the straight course. With 24 runners, the Betfair Sportsbook are offering the race as an EXTRA PLACE SPECIAL.

Fahey's juvenile to improve again

The Harry Rosebery Stakes looks a good renewal with a batch of juveniles looking to earn their Listed stripes, and the race could go to Richard Fahey's Regional.

He looked above-average winning on his debut at Pontefract. He was clued-up with a speedy start and travelled nicely into the turn on the outside of the pacesetter.

The most impressive aspect of the performance was the way in which the 2yo quickened up as he bounded clear in the closing stages. That should serve him well as Ayr does take a bit of getting down the long straight.

He cost 120,000gns and has a good pedigree. He can improve again on what was an excellent first start.

Dragon to roar with a return to Newbury

14:30 Newbury - Back Scarlet Dragon @ 5.104/1

The 1m4f handicap at 14:30 is full of question marks. Humanitarian returns from a long absence, Dash Of Spice isn't quite the force of old, and Dubai Future didn't find a lot in the battle at Ripon and has been subsequently gelded.

By process of elimination, Scarlet Dragon should enjoy the return to Newbury, and today's distance looks his best trip.

Scarlet Dragon is a mercurial character and can travel smoothly though his races. He outran his odds in the Ebor last time with a fine effort to finish seventh, and he won't mind the drop in distance today.

Expect Jim Crowley to sit and wait to utilise his pace and he can add to his Royal Ascot success earlier in the season.

Journey a glorious price to win for Appleby

16:15 Newbury - Back Glorious Journey @ 9.617/2

Several of the contenders in the 16:15 Listed contest are looking to rediscover their best form, and with an open-looking feel to the race, Charlie Appleby's Glorious Journey looks overpriced at 9.617/2.

He hasn't performed anywhere near to the best of his ability in two starts this summer, but they have been in Group races, and he'll be taking a drop down in class for Friday.

When he's on his 'A' game, Glorious Journey travels sweetly and is a classy operator over 7f - including a Hungerford victory here.

On official ratings he is the best horse in the field with 111, and the drying ground shouldn't be a problem either as he has scored on a sound surface out in Meydan. He'll certainly travel better than his price suggests.
