Lydiate looks a live contender with front-running duties
14:05 Hamilton - Back Lydiate Lady @ 8.07/1
Spanish City almost got there for the column at a big price, and it was through gritted teeth when I viewed his in-play low of 1.3130/100. It was a cracking effort, though, and I hope he gets his much-deserved win before the season's out. He stays on the list after yesterday.
Onwards and upwards to Sunday we go.
The Hamilton card throws up some fairly low-grade racing for the afternoon, but there could be an opportunity for Lydiate Lady to return to form at a decent price of 8.07/1.
With a lack of winning form amongst her rivals, I am hoping the selection can replicate her effort over course and distance in July - when she finished second to a stronger stayer but raced with plenty of enthusiasm.
She held onto her position near-side in that, and from her draw in nine for Sunday, I expect a repeat of the tactics from jockey Gemma Tutty. She's also dropping down in class slightly from 0-65. Although to a 0-60, it's a very slight one.
She is fairly adaptable with the going with form on both good and heavy and from a mark of 59, I'm expecting a decent effort and can easily put a line through her run on the fibresand last time at Southwell.
Liberty to show the power to win on handicap debut
16:40 Hamilton - Back Liberty Power @ 4.57/2
The 16:40 1m1f handicap presents a tricky poser. Ghayyar could be thrown in on his old form with his rating of 61, but he hasn't won for a while. Whilst Edgar Allan Poe is dropping in class for a yard hitting form - but he wants soft conditions in my opinion.
Preference is with the unexposed Tim Easterby runner Liberty Power. Back him at 4.507/2.
He's one of the three-year-olds in the line-up and is the big player here from a handicap debut mark of 65. The first-time tongue-tie should also help.
The market hasn't warmed to him in his three starts to date and he was a huge price last time out at Wolverhampton. He was awkward at the start and failed to get away cleanly in a race wrapped up by a subsequent winner off a mark of 90, so there is certainly something to work with.
Ghayyar should be considered in the Place market with nine runners, but I'll stick with potential over exposed form.
