"...is certainly well enough handicapped to merit a second glance in a race like this."
Timeform pick out the three best bets at Newcastle on Monday...
My Boy Sepoy - 14:55 Newcastle
My Boy Sepoy has been shaping better than the bare result suggests of late, not seen to best effect in a couple of races at Kempton in September and October, and arguably unlucky not to win at the same venue last time, not quite getting the strong gallop that would have shown him to best advantage, though he did finish well. He looks to have been given a chance by the handicapper and appears to be building up to something, so he must be taken seriously on his tapeta debut.
Tricorn - 16:05 Newcastle
Having undergone a breathing operation, Tricorn took a step back in the right direction when hitting the frame at Wolverhampton earlier this month, fading inside the final furlong but entitled to come on for the run. Ruth Carr's inmates are going a lot better now than they were in the autumn, and Tricorn is certainly well enough handicapped to merit a second glance in a race like this.
Lomu - 18:35 Newcastle
Lomu came in for plenty of support ahead of his run at Chelmsford at the beginning of the month, and he duly confirmed his return to form, staying on for second in what was a solid handicap. Upped in grade, he again shaped well at Lingfield last time, shaken up over a furlong out and finishing well to claim fifth, things not quite dropping his way on the day. He has been given a chance by the handicapper, 3 lb below his last winning mark, and this is a much more winnable race than the ones he's been contesting of late.
