More patient ride can bring improvement

Ffos Las 15:40: D'Jango 1pt win 5/1

D'Jango is one of a number of horses to have joined David Pipe this season having been bought from France and he's shown ability on his three completed starts for his new yard.

On his first start for Pipe over fences at Wincanton, his jumping let him down when finishing fourth and that proved to be an issue again at Plumpton next time when falling.

Switched back to hurdling at Exeter two starts ago, he ran respectably to be a close fifth behind Raddon Top who has won again since.

He had worn cheekpieces for his first three starts in Britain but those were replaced by blinkers last time at Wincanton and he ran very well in defeat. Having lined up handily, he was shuffled back at the first hurdle and was towards the back of the main group turning down the back on the first circuit. He gradually made headway as the race progressed and jumped into third at the first hurdle in the back straight on the final circuit. He continued that progress to be in a share of the lead leaving the back and was sent a few lengths clear turning the final bend but he was starting to weaken approaching the last (usual 2 out) and ended up on an unfavourable part of the track as they had to go around the last, eventually finishing second.

Given he ended up much further back than planned early on and was sent on too soon this was a good run from D'Jango and the blinkers are retained today.

I expect they will look to ride him handier early on today and he should have a good pace to track with Dynamite Kentucky, Glancing Glory and Shah An Shah in the field.

There is a concern that he might be a difficult horse to win with but I think he has more ability than his rating of 106 and any 9/2 or bigger appeals.
