Horse Racing Tips: Rhys Williams likes a winning hurdler at a huge price on flat debut at Nottingham

Our racing expert has one selection on Wednesday

Rhys Williams has analysed Wednesday's racing and has one selection at Nottingham.

“The lack of obstacles in his way should be a positive for Zyon given how he jumped last time and the ground drying out is in his favour.”

May find this more suitable than chasing

Nottingham 16:25: Zyon 1pt e/w 80/1

Mellow Magic heads the market for this staying novice race and she sets the standard on flat form but I think she's looked a bit awkward under pressure. It's no surprise that there's been support this morning for Coquelicot as she was a smart horse in bumpers and her jumping held her back over hurdles so she could return to the level she showed in bumpers today but I think her price has got to about where it should be now.

Swiss Mistress and Nell The Thief have to bounce back after disappointing efforts last time while others that have run on the flat need to improve on what they've shown so far.

Due to the doubts over many of his rivals, I think Zyon has to be backed at a huge price on his flat debut and I'm very surprised that he's the outsider of the field. He started his career with Paul Nicholls and was very green on debut in a bumper at Wincanton before improving next time with a good run in defeat at Ascot.

Switched to hurdling the following season, he won on his second start over hurdles over 2m5½f and received a rating of 124 on the back of that before disappointing a little at Ascot on soft ground in a handicap next time.

Zyon only ran once more for Nicholls before being bought for £9,000 to join Adam West. He showed on his only start so far for West in a handicap chase at Huntingdon that he still retains a fairly good level of ability as he made many mistakes but was still only beaten 14 lengths off a mark of 120.

The lack of obstacles in his way should be a positive for Zyon given how he jumped last time and the ground drying out is in his favour. If he can transfer the ability that he showed in an Ascot bumper or over obstacles to racing on the flat then I think he can be far more competitive than the market currently suggests.

This is the first time that he will race from starting stalls so there's always the concern that he could be very slowly away and lose his chance at the start but I think he's a crazy price in a field of this quality and any 33/1 or bigger appeals.
