Timeform on Captain Claret
15:35 - EAGLES DARE (1) still looked in need of the experience when fourth over course and distance last time and appeals as the sort to do better in handicaps from what looks a fair opening mark. Coul Kat is another who should have more to offer now venturing into nurseries, while blinkers could spark some improvement from Mark Johnston's Mister Allegro.
16:10 - Now that Pretty Pickle is a non-runner it is CAPTAIN CLARET (1) who makes the most appeal. He left his debut form well behind switched to turf when finishing runner-up over course and distance (started at 80/1 but traded at 1.56 in-running), leading two furlongs out and only headed in the final 100 yards by one who has run respectably since. This doesn't look a deep race and he won't need to improve much further to open his account.
16:40 - There are lots of question marks against several of these, so LAFONTAINE (10) is fancied to build on her recent sixth here after an absence and gain a first win on turf to supplement her all-weather success at Kempton last winter. Jungle Boogaloo is in good hands and arrives in decent form so can make her presence felt again, while Emerald Fox is another who can have a say.
17:15 - Marginal preference is for HLAITAN (8) who has few miles on the clock and signalled his turn is near when a fine third at Newbury last month. He didn't get the rub of the green on that occasion, but confirmed he was happy back at this trip, and could have more to offer. Mr Tyrrell can boast a course and distance win so is feared most on the back of his good recent second here, while Pitchcombe is another worth a second look in an open handicap.
17:50 - SOVEREIGN STATE (7) and Tilsworth Rose look the most solid options in the context of this race. The latter resumed winning ways in gritty fashion at Lingfield last time and should make another bold bid, but preference is for Sovereign State, who performed with credit back from a 10-month absence at Chepstow and his claims will be enhanced if the forecast rain arrives. Sugar Plum Fairy may be best of the rest.
18:20 - PASSIONAL (6) showed ability amidst obvious signs of greenness when fourth in a five-furlong Lingfield maiden 19 days ago. This well-bred filly is entitled to progress from that opening effort, and gets the nod to come out on top now fitted with a first-time visor. Bring The Money rates the chief threat if bouncing back to the form shown when runner-up at Ripon on his penultimate start.
18:50 - CRYSTAL PEGASUS (2) has done little wrong in hitting the frame all three starts on turf and all-weather this term, finishing runner-up over a mile and a half on his latest start at Wolverhampton. The ease in trip will hold no fears, and he sets a fairly useful standard, so is fancied to get off the mark under William Buick. Moomba is another high on the shortlist, along with Ridgeway who won well over course and distance in July.
19:20 - LYRICAL BALLAD (10) has run a couple of promising races over hurdles since the resumption of racing and has a fair chance back on the level off her current mark on a few bits of form. She could be the way to go with a good-value claimer booked. Marie's Gem likely has a race in her, while Aumerle is another to consider.
19:50 - Though absent since finishing down the field at Kempton 327 days ago, ATALANTA BREEZE (1) is appealing given that she was returning from a similar absence when making a winning handicap/turf debut at Brighton in September. Rare Glam is an obvious threat on the back of a thoroughly decisive all-the-way course and distance success last week. She is feared most ahead of handicap-debutante Saigon Suzi and Fox Shinji.
