"...he can win again before moving up in class..."
Timeform on Carolus Magnus
Carolus Magnus shaped with plenty of promise on debut at Doncaster last month and duly built on that when opening his account in good style at Newmarket earlier this month. Admittedly, he broke well and got to the favoured rail position and made all of the running, which saw him to good effect, but that was in a stronger race than this, and he can win again before moving up in class.
Spirit of May resumed winning ways over course and distance earlier this year having fallen below his last winning mark, recording his fourth win at this track in the process (all over course and distance). For one reason or another he wasn't in the same form back here on his latest start in February, but that was in a much stronger race than this, and he is the type to bounce back quickly. He looks the way to go with a professional jockey back on board.
Street Poet had fallen to a career-low mark and returned to form to end a losing run at Wolverhampton last week and duly followed up under a penalty at the same venue on Saturday. He went with plenty of enthusiasm, helping set the pace and stayed on well in the straight. He avoids a penalty for that success, has built up a good rapport with this young apprentice, and seems sure to launch another bold bid.
