For Friday the Daily Racing Multiples bet is off to Southwell with a pair of runners holding good claims for an 11.81 payout...
Jewel a good price to set up the double
19:45 Southwell - Back Jewel Maker
We were a bit too ambitious yesterday with the four selections, although Indigo Times was our fifth individual winner in three days to add to the frustration.
This looks a good race tactically to try and solve with a small field and a couple of well-handicapped runners. But we'll nominate Jewel Maker for the first leg of today's double, and if he wins it gives us a decent price to set up the finale, as he was chalked up at 7/2 on the Sportsbook this morning.
Jewel Maker has been involved in a few steadily run races at Newcastle and with the way he travels, he looks the ideal type of horse that needs a hare to run at. Luckily, Asdaa is in the race - a horse that acts on the surface and should bounce out to lead and there's no doubt he's off a good mark from 77, but he doesn't win too often these days.
The selection Jewel Maker will be running on the Fibresand for the first time tonight, but he's by the sire of sires Invincible Spirit, who has a decent strike-rate around here at 17% win and 28% placed.
I take him with his smooth travelling style to enjoy the new surface.
Dixie can blow away his rivals
20:15 Southwell - Back Blowing Dixie
The second leg of today's multiple goes in the 1m3f handicap to round off the evening, and it's all about the trip here, or as the Latin phrase goes nub de re.
Morlaix was a comfortable winner last time at the track, and as a Mayson, he continued that sire's fine record at Southwell. But that was at 1m and I got the feeling the race suited him better than those in behind. Previously he had been racing over shorter, so stamina comes into question as he is jumping up nearly half a mile.
Staying is no problem for Blowing Dixie, who landed a big punt around here last time. He saw out the 1m4f very strongly and with form at even further, he simply could outstay his main market rival.
He carries a penalty for that win but he's still well treated on his old form. Two places for both races also can bring into play the each-way double with the small fields too if you like that sort of bet.
