Alan Dudman had a placed runner at 7/1 yesterday and is backing two Tony Carroll horses at Brighton on Tuesday and the Sportsbook double pays 18/1 if both win...
Carroll can coax a first win out of Moon
Back Sapphire's Moon 7.06/1 in the 14:00 at Brighton
The ground scuppered any hope for getting Duke Of Luckley in for the second leg in yesterday's each-way double, although All Lies Ahead ran a fine race in second at Gowran Park in a good handicap for a 7/1 runner-up place. Although as a devotee of Ado McGuinness and his handicap runners, I was a bit annoyed as I picked the wrong one behind Spanish Tenor.
I am already planning Laugh A Minute for a Galway punt. A meeting I love. I'll stick with that plan, much like Quentin Crisp, who never ever cleaned or dusted his flat and once said "It's a case of holding one's nerve".
Dusting off the double boots today, Tony Carroll is the man for Brighton and already has five winners at the seaside venue this season. He does have a lot of runners, and often two in a race, but a 20% strike-rate is a good figure from 25 horses sent there this term.
Sapphire's Moon placed a couple of times last season at Wolverhampton and Chepstow with seconds in 0-60 company. Indeed, the effort at Dunstall Park was a bit unlucky as she was drawn very wide and the race earned a sectional upgrade.
At Chepstow it was rattling fast too, and she peeled off some fast times in the early part of the race with a pair of 10.60s.
She returned to the track after a 212-day absence last time at Bath. They went a fast pace in that, and while she was well beaten under unfavourable hold-up tactics, the ground would have been against her too with some soft in the description.
Sarabi can justify favourite's position in the betting
Back Queen Sarabi @ 2.757/4 in the 16:05 at Brighton
Originally I looked at Sly Madam for an eminently winnable 7f Handicap, but he previous win over 1m at the track looks a bit of a fluke on paper, as she was well beaten on her next start.
It shouldn't take a lot of winning and another from the Carroll stable makes the frame with last-time-out winner Queen Sarabi.
She landed a weak race over CD, but she beat another of the trainer's into second with De Vegas beaten from a mark of 60. Queen Sarabi won it from 46, and while a little keen, showed a good attitude in duking it out down the straight and saw out the trip well.
That was her third run at Brighton and she has performed well her in all three of those, and from just a 3lb higher mark, should be up to winning this.
