McCann can be so good for us to maintain his 100% Musselburgh record
Back Emirat De Catana @ 4/1 in the 13:45 at Musselburgh
The 3m Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle doesn't look a strong race, with a whole host of serial losers. Pure Surf was the favourite last night, but she has to bounce back from a lamentable effort last time at Sedgefield, and her overall profile isn't that of a consistent mare.
While Ollie Greenall's Fraterculus is now 0-17.
Lucinda Russell is using Edinburgh youngster Conner McCann again and he's more than capable what we've seen so far and his 10lb claim could be worth a fair bit in this.
The Edinburgh native is on board Emirat De Catana who ran a fair race behind in-from Broadway Joe last time over 2m4f at Musselburgh. But the return to 3m will suit him better and the drying ground is far from a negative.
He needs to improve his jumping, but he's down to such a winnable mark these days, he looks as though he has a solid chance at 4/1. Russell has a 28% strike-rate here this season with 3-11 and McCann has rode Diamond State well to win this term, and from only five mounts he's had two winners. Indeed, he is 2-2 at Musselburgh this term.
Raider can notch up the rapid hat-trick
Back Rapid Raider @ 9/4 in the 14:45 at Musselburgh
It's Russell again with her in-form Rapid Raider, and he looks a good bet to follow up his recent wins and can complete the hat-trick here at 9/4.
The rookie chaser has improved immensely this term. He showed up well on his return at Hexham earlier in the campaign following wind surgery, and then recorded back-to-back victories at Bangor and Ayr. The latter race saw him up to 2m4f, and he could show even more improvement at 3m today.
His rider Stephen Mulqueen has struck up a good relationship with the horse - on board for those two wins, and he gave the horse a nice ride at Ayr last time on the inside saving ground.
This will be his first try over 3m, and he is the ideal type for the yard that do well with these staying chasers, and this fella cost 50,000, so he is starting to show his worth. He's certainly on a good mark and could improve again in this grade.
