Hyperfocus is wee bit of a Haydock specialist and soft conditions make him a player in a fiercely devilish handicap.

I've not had too much luck with my Tim Easterby selections of late, so Hyperfocus needs to address that, and he is certainly well treated these days considering he finished second at York in 2019 from a mark of 94. He's off 87 today.

There's every reason to believe he needed the run last time at York a long way behind Mr Lupton and it was encouraging to see money for him on Friday night on the Sportsbook cut from 11/1 to 8/1,

His record at Haydock is three from five and he beat his stablemate Danzan over course and distance last season - crucially in soft ground.

William Haggas sends With Thanks to take on the boys in the John Of Gaunt, and I think she can defy a bit of a Sportsbook drift and win this. Back her in the double at 5/1.

She's turning into a mini Addeybb with her preference for soft conditions, even heavy, with her record on the latter reading 1211. She has to improve to beat some of her rivals but testing conditions make her a real force.

A very easy win in the Athasi over in Ireland marked her down as potentially better than a Group 3 performer, and she destroyed that field by five lengths with the way she quickened.

She also gets 5lb from Safe Voyage who is one of the favourites.
