Poet can be the punters' pal
18:00 Ballinrobe - Back Punters Poet
We have nothing quite as fancy as yesterday's double, and how close we were getting ther first leg in at 16/1. Fair play to the guys at the Sportsbook who boosted the odds out to 125/1, although it was a shame our final selection was denied in second.
Hopefully you got the each-way part anyway at 1/5 of the odds.
On to the 'Robe for me on Monday, and a rare trip, but it's the only evening card on so we'll have plenty of time.
Punters Poet delivered a career best to win over hurdles last time at Clonmel from 88. He was produced late rather well off the pace by Keith Donoghue and showed improved form to win that.
The trainer stated that good ground was key to the improvement, and the rise in weights is offset tonight by young jockey Dillon Maxwell. His inexperience is a slight worry as this is just his second ride.
But the price compensates for that and this looks an open race.
Ciankyle looks to hold a strong chance
19:00 Ballinrobe - Back Ciankyle
Ciankyle looks a rock-solid favourite in the 19:00 race and he is the only one in the line-up with track winning form. In fact, Ballinrobe and Sligo are his favourite venues.
He produced a decent effort on his first run after a break recently finishing second.
Soft ground seems to suit these days even though he was tagged as a horse who went better on a sounder surface. His jumping will stand him in good stead too as he is very reliable and he's been a grand servant for trainer Peter Cluskey.
At 9/4, I can see him winning.
