Ascot Racing Tips: Thunder on the forecast

Timeform's Andrew Asquith focuses on the action at Ascot on Friday

" well worth another chance with his sights lowered..."

Timeform's Andrew Asquith highlights a Nap, Next Best and Each-Way selection at Ascot on Friday.

Thunder Rock - 12:55 Ascot

Thunder Rock had an excellent record over hurdles, winning four of his six starts, and he took his form to a new level when making a winning start over fences at Uttoxeter last month. He was given a very confident ride on that occasion, still having plenty of work to do down the back straight, but he moved into contention stylishly and had plenty in hand at the line. He proved himself very well handicapped indeed, so a subsequent 7 lb rise in the weights looks lenient, especially as he will relish this longer trip. Big chance.

Do Your Job - 14:05 Ascot

Do Your Job took his form to a new level over fences last season, winning three times, including a Grade 2 novice at Ayr in April. He was let down by an uncharacteristic error just as the race was taking shape on his comeback run in the Old Roan Chase at Aintree last time, but he is a horse to remain positive about, and is well worth another chance with his sights lowered.

Sporting Ace - 15:50 Ascot

Sporting Ace made a good impression when making a winning start on hurdling debut earlier in the year and lost little in defeat to a highly-promising rival in a novice at Exeter on his return from six months off last time. An opening mark of 116 might underestimate him based on the form of his debut and he is entitled to have come forward for his recent outingand he's fancied to get the better of recent winner Betterforeveryone.
