Bow Echo
Bidding to give George Boughey a first win in the race, unbeaten colt Bow Echo has plenty in his favour coming into his toughest assignment.
The son of Night Of Thunder won over course-and-distance in the Royal Lodge Stakes last September, further enhancing his reputation whilst gaining valuable experience on the Rowley Mile which should hold him in good stead.
His maiden win at Newbury has produced four subsequent winners, while the form of his Ascendant Stakes success at Haydock has been boosted on multiple occasions, too. There's substance to the form and he's yet to be fully tested, making him difficult to oppose as an exciting prospect for the season ahead.
Distant Storm
Charlie Appleby-trained Distant Storm stuck to the task well when third to the sadly ill-fated Gewan and Gstaad in the Dewhurst Stakes over 7f here last autumn. He didn't enjoy the most favourable trip and will have to show further improvement, but should benefit from the extra experience at the track and remains a promising colt with a bright future ahead.
Successful on debut at the July Course last summer, he could only manage third when a beaten favourite in the Acomb Stakes. Excuses could be made for that below par effort, and he bounced back to claim Group Three honours in his subsequent start, flashing plenty of speed to win comfortably in a race previously won by Modern Games.
The Night Of Thunder colt will need to show progression from his juvenile campaign if he is to provide the yard with a third successive victory in the opening Classic of the season, but he is another contender who has gained valuable experience at the track and is open to further improvement as he bids to live up to his €1.9 million price tag.
Gstaad
Highly tried for Aidan O'Brien last term, Starspangledbanner colt Gstaad recorded three successes from six starts including Grade One honours at the Breeders' Cup. He performed consistently well throughout his debut campaign, winning a 20-runner renewal of the Coventry Stakes by three-lengths before being narrowly denied in three successive Group One appearances including in the Dewhurst Stakes at this track.
Hardy and tough, the Ballydoyle representative was supplemented for the race this week having been accidentally withdrawn previously. He's more exposed than some of his rivals but is a proven performer at the highest level, making him a reliable contender.
The lack of a recent run is a slight concern based on recent runners for the yard in this race, but if ready to go on his reappearance, there's few reasons to suggest he'll disappoint.
King's Trail
Unbeaten colt King's Trail has won twice on the all-weather at Kempton in recent months, including landing the race previously won by Notable Speech over a mile in March.
The Godolphin homebred is attempting to follow in the footsteps of his talented stablemate who landed the 2024 renewal of this Classic having only won at Kempton previously. It has been done before by Charlie Appleby, therefore it's dangerous to underestimate this exciting prospect.
The son of Sea The Stars has shown glimpses of great ability in his two starts but is yet to be tested, completely unexposed coming into this race. He faces a tough task in his first Stakes level assignment but could be capable of showing masses of improvement in only his third start and first appearance on Turf.
Oxagon
Course-and-distance winner Oxagon impressed to land the Craven Stakes recently in first-time cheekpieces for John and Thady Gosden. He improved plenty on his below par effort in the Futurity Trophy last autumn to claim his first Stakes level success.
This race will be a different challenge but the son of Frankel has a recent run as well as proven form at the track in his favour, and may have improved plenty for a winter break and the benefit of experience in tough contests as a juvenile last term.
A progressive performer for an in-form yard, there could be more to come from the colt, who has plenty in his favour.
Avicenna
Second only to Oxagon in the Craven Stakes recently, things didn't pan out favourably for Avicenna on that occasion but he could come on for the run in his first taste of the Rowley Mile and take a step forward in his first Group One appearance.
Trained by Roger Varian, the Starspangledbanner colt shaped with promise in two victories last term including when claiming Listed success over subsequent Group Three winner Hankelow.
On the back of an eye-catching reappearance effort, Avicenna could be a colt to keep onside and may be able to reverse the recent form with Oxagon and put in a bold bid.
Alparslan
Karl Burke-trained colt Alparslan provided a small surprise when beating the likes of Zavateri and Albert Einstein in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury recently. He significantly enhanced his Classic credentials on that occasion and may be able to show further improvement now with the benefit of a recent run.
Last term, the son of Dandy Man, who fetched €75,000 as a yearling, made a promising start to his career winning both of his first two starts by a combined distance of eight-and-a-half-lengths. He was subsequently sent off at odds of 50/151.00 for the Dewhurst Stakes when only sixth to Gewan, but appears to have improved plenty this season and could show further progression in only his fifth start.
Needle Match
Fourth to Alparslan in the Greenham Stakes, Needle Match didn't enjoy the most favourable outing at Newbury but was staying on late in the closing stages, shaping with some promise, and could be a horse to keep onside this season.
He's unexposed coming into this race and may find the contest too hot in only his third start, but he wasn't far behind hugely talented rivals in his latest outing and is entitled to keep showing improvement as he gains experience.
Trained by William Haggas, the Night Of Thunder colt displayed tenacity when winning on debut and could be capable of proving himself in deeper waters here, but does need to take another step forward.
Thesecretadversary
St Mark's Basilica colt Thesecretadversary finished second in all of his first three starts last season, including when a length behind Humidity in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. He shed his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking at Tipperary, when beating Brussels to Listed success, before lining up in a Woodbine Grade One that didn't pan out favourably for him.
Successful on his return at Leopardstown recently, when recording a two-and-a-half-length victory in Group Three company, the Fozzy Stack-trained contender has shown consistency throughout his career to date as well as gaining valuable experiences against tough opposition, including overseas. He may not be as flashy as some of his rivals but he has been steadily progressive and there's plenty to like about his profile.
Into The Sky
Into The Sky was a dominant surprise 80/181.00 on debut at Newbury, landing his maiden in style by seven-and-a-half-lengths before finishing second when upped to Group Two level in his subsequent start.
Beaten only by Words Of Truth when last seen, the son of Starman lost little in defeat, clear by four-and-quarter-lengths of third-placed Flying Comet, who subsequently reversed form with the winner in Meydan.
Entitled to show further improvement after only two starts, the Jim Boyle-trained colt has shown to possess raw ability and could be capable of being competitive at this level. He'll need to show progression to compete, but remains unexposed with the ceiling of his ability unknown.
Padraig Dawn
Young trainer Charlie Pike is set to saddle Saxon Warrior colt Padraig Dawn in this prestigious contest, an unexposed performer making only his third racecourse appearance.
He made a winning start at Southwell earlier in the year before being narrowly denied at Listed level at Newcastle when last seen. In his latest start, the colt caught the eye, sticking to the task well late on when beating some talented opponents including Andab and Jel Pepper.
Whilst further improvement is needed, Padraig Dawn is on an upward trajectory and is capable of showing progression as he gains experience. There may be other more solid options in the field, but he has done little wrong in two starts and is largely an unknown quantity still.
Power Blue
A Group One winner of the Phoenix Stakes last summer, Power Blue was beaten on his return by Thesecretadversary but put in a decent effort in defeat and remains a promising prospect for Robson De Aguiar.
The son of Space Blues has shown a good level of form in seven starts including when narrowly denied by Albert Einstein at the Curragh and when fifth to Gstaad in the Coventry Stakes.
He'll need to take a step forward from his return to action to make his presence felt in this field, but has some valuable experience in his favour which should hold him in good stead.
Venetian Prince
Andrew Balding-trained Venetian Prince could only manage fourth to Oxagon in the Craven Stakes when last seen, but there were some positives to take from the performance and he has the benefit of experience at the track now as well as a recent run.
He kept on late following reminders in his first trip to the Rowley Mile, and, although he didn't quicken effectively, he wasn't too far behind the second and third-placed runners.
More is needed, but the son of St Mark's Basilica is a half-brother to a number of black-type achievers including the talented See The Fire, and could be capable of outrunning his odds.
Billecart
Only fifth in Listed company when last seen, 380,000gns purchase Billecart has plenty to find with some of his rivals in this field but is making only his fourth career start and could be capable of showing further progression back on the Turf, therefore cannot be fully discounted.
The son of Night Of Thunder finished ahead of the likes of Oxagon and Venetian Prince in a hotly contested maiden on the July Course last summer won by Distant Storm. That was his sole appearance on the Turf to date in a promising enough start and an outing from which he was entitled to improve.
It's too early to give up on the Karl Burke-trained contender, but whether or not he's ready for a challenge of this magnitude at this stage in his career remains to be seen.
Lord Britain
A big-priced outsider, Lord Britain is more exposed than most in this field but he was an eye-catcher in defeat to King's Trail at Kempton on reappearance and may be capable of picking up a prize or too further down the line in calmer waters.
He may be outclassed in this field, but he does have noteworthy form when winning a Kempton novice event previously won by Qirat and Detain, beating Aspect Island, a subsequent Breeders' Cup Grade One third, and Cornwallis Stakes third, now rated 106.
If able to show further improvement and perform to the best of his ability, the Ismail Mohammed-trained son of Universal could be able to outrun his odds, but would be a surprise winner.
