A fascinating Novice Handicap Chase sees the return of the promising Hometown Boy, who has been absent since his Grade 3 Hurdle win at the Aintree Festival in 2021, but there's a good chance the former point-to-point winner will need this.

Captain Morgs ran well on his only chase start to date at Cartmel last June before switching back to hurdles and enhancing his form in that sphere, but one mistake saw him outpaced by lesser opposition than today, and the drop back to 2m4f might not be a positive at this venue.

Valentino Dancer didn't have to improve on his neck second at Newton Abbot in August to score 33 days ago and may prove vulnerable now, seeing winter horses return to the track. He looks held by the handicapper, while Quid Pro Quo has had plenty of chances this summer but has failed to get the job done and is a poor favourite at the time of writing.

It's worth taking a chance with Kandoo Kid - 7/24.50 on the Betfair Sportsbook - who will start this season off on the right side of the handicapper and was at most ticking over in three hurdles starts between 2021 and 2022 but proved himself a capable jumper. Given the sporadic gaps in his racing profile, he has had some issues, and now, tackling fences, he is firmly expected to prove a different proposition.

Trainer Paul Nicholls has had an excellent 33% strike rate with chasers at this venue in the last five years, and he always expressed that Kandoo Kid was a chaser in the making. The speed figure of his win at Ascot in October 2021 over hurdles far outweighs anything in this field other than Hometown Boy, who will do well to win here after 908 days off the track.

The selection will be primed for his chase debut, as most from this yard are. Considering jockey Harry Cobden is chasing the Jockey title, it's interesting that this is his only ride of the day at Warwick.

His opening odds with the Sportsbook are defensive, and waiting for the BSP will likely prove profitable, but any 7/24.50 or bigger is acceptable.

A competitive race, but the drop in trip at Goodwood was evidently against Wind Your Neck In - 6/17.00 on the Betfair Sportsbook - but he was very strong in the market, and the way he stuck on at the finish suggested a return to form could be imminent now back up in distance.

He has fallen in the handicap over the past 12 months, but performances this season on a slow surface have seen him edge his way back to somewhere near his best, notably at Sandown in July when bumping into a handicap gamble and doing too much on the front end of the pace.

He is three pounds lower than that good run, and his latest effort at Goodwood was another step in the right direction. Today's race is easier than both assignments and returning to Salisbury, which saw him to such good effect in three starts as a Juvenile, is a big positive.

His form figures on soft/heavy ground read extremely favourably 24211 and a win over the brilliant Israr, a short-head second to Jack Darcy and a third on debut to Outbreak (95) and Point Lynas (100) when an eye-catcher from of the pace sees him boast extremely strong form at this venue.

In the hope that the newly fitted visor helps him concentrate under pressure, he has all the ingredients to put in a significant effort from a fair draw in stall six. Kevin Stott is a positive jockey booking and retains the ride from Goodwood eight days ago, and he really should be getting the job done today.

Back him at 4/15.00 or bigger.
