No dramas with Burke's Lowther runner
Back Dramatised @ 1.910/11 in the 13:50 at York
A fine effort from Sandbeck to finish third yesterday, from what turned out to be a difficult position on Day 1 at York with the sprints, as being pinned over to the far side rail was the way to go. And well done for those that found Bergerac. Goodolphin had a poor day, and as Bruce Springsteen says: "Nobody wins unless everybody wins".
Baeed was different class though, and went past Mishriff as if he was Golden Apollo.
Another high-quality day awaits on the Knavesmire, but I am shunning the big field handicaps in favour of a couple of potentially top drawer fillies starting with Dramatised in the Lowther.
The 2yo Showcasing filly blitzed her rivals on Newmarket debut by over 4L, but produced a special display when winning the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, to earn a Timeform rating of 119p weight adjusted for this race.
Early race sectionals at Ascot 10.85 and 10.80 and a race finishing speed of 98% indicated a hot early part with a stiff finish, and I don't anticipate today's 6f being a problem as her mother Katie's Diamond - whom Karl Burke trained, got 6f.
Burke has had 25 2yo turf winners this term from a lot of runners, and this could be his best one as she looks very exciting.
Anticipate a Golden performance in the Galtres
Back Golden Lyra @ 3.55/2 in the 16:10 at York
A potentially strong edition of the Listed Galtres Stakes today and a batch of fillies that are still to reach their limit in terms of potential. One such is the William Haggas-trained Golden Lyra who has only had three starts in her career.
Haggas last won the Galtres in 2014 (and previously 2013) with Our Obsession and Queen Of Ice, who at their respective stages of their careers, were rated 8lb lower than Golden Lyra is now.
She produced a high-calibre display on her debut last October - winning at Newmarket by 5L. A certain Nashwa was back in third.
The 3yo made her somewhat belated debut for this campaign in June in the Listed Abingdon, but the steady pace and the softer conditions allied with a bit of matchday rustiness all pointed to a run that was needed.
She had a nice confidence booster in a Kempton Novice last time over 1m4f with a silky performance as she completely demolished an inferior field. Golden Lyra sat handy, and Tom Marquand barely had to work as her final couple of furlongs were miles quicker than anything else.
Her finishing speed was clocked at 111%.
An entry in Champions Day is on her list of engagements, but she can land this today en route to something better.
