River ready for step up to 7f
Back Theriverrunsdeep each-way @ 13/2 in the 18:00 at Dundalk
A field of 14 for the Dundalk 18:00 7f Handicap and one of the Extra Place Special races on the Sportsbook provides one of the each-way races today, and that's something that cannot be levelled at Exeter.
The contenders can be narrowed down to a few and Well Suited ran well last time to be a place horse to consider, but because he is without a win for such a long time, my preference here is for Theriverrunsdeep.
She is relatively lightly-raced compared to some of her rivals and for a low grade horse her record of 3-8 on the All-Weather is a plus.
The mare came back after a break last time over 6f at the track to run really well for third behind Poet's Pride.
The winner got a dream Dundalk ride that day as the jockey navigated the whole field wide as they spread across the track and he bagged the rail, which is often the quickest part of Dundalk.
Theriverrunsdeep didn't do an awful lot wrong down the centre of the track, but as that was over 6f, she looks ready to go up to 7f tonight as she was staying on with a bit of purpose.
With the four places I would be very disappointed if she couldn't hit the first four as she looks like 7f will suit.
She's off a good mark on 59 and James Ryan claims 7lb to very much put her in the mixer.
Take a wild swing on Shot for place honours
Back Wild Shot each-way @ 16/1 in the 19:00 at Dundalk
A big price selection for an open apprentice handicap with the four places again and Wild Shot appeals at a massive 16/1 for trainer John McConnell.
Over hurdles, this grand servant would be the best of this field, so it's a pity there are no hurdles, but he's rated mid-120s in that sphere and is a course and distance winner.
He finished fourth in the Ladies' Derby at the Curragh during the summer off a mark of 63, and while he is 1lb higher, his stamina very much comes into play for this at 1m2f.
There's an argument on the flip-side to suggest he wants further, but in a big field and his hold up style, he might be able to plug on at the end as he usually comes from off the pace.
County Meath trainer McConnell is very quiet at the moment in terms of winners (one from his last 33 runners), but Wild Shot has been a super horse for the yard and has raced 51 times on the All-Weather.
Once again with the Extra Place Special contest we can go each-way for the four places.
