Testing conditions are the order of the day for Nottingham on Wednesday

Alan Dudman is hoping ground conditions suit his two picks on Wednesday and Spoof runs in the feature at Nottingham...

  • Selections proven in the mud

  • Evasive Power to appreciate testing conditions

  • Spoof drops in class following Haydock second

Nottingham - 15:12: Back Evasive Power

With officially heavy going at Nottingham today, it won't be an afternoon for the faint hearted or weak finishers and the ground will sort a few out today.

I am hoping with testing ground form that Evasive Power can add to his win last time out at Brighton over 7f, and with the drop down sprinting to 6f, he should at least be one to last home.

The Brighton success was his first for a while and that was more than attritional as the race finish speed was 91%, and for a sharp track, that is fairly brutal, but Evasive Power boxed on near side and reeled in the front-runner who was over the far side.

In fact, his final furlong as slow as it was, was over 1.10 seconds quicker than the third.

The 7yo is actually quite versatile at a trip with wins at 7f and form at 1m, and he made the running back in 2021 to score around Epsom - once again with some cut in the ground.

He's still well treated from a mark of 60 given he was 77 two years ago and his trainer Robyn Brisland has had two winners from his last nine runners and actually pops up in the hot trainer list with 4-24 in the last month at 16% and a level stakes profit return of +7.00.

Nottingham - 15:42: Back Spoof

Trainer Kevin Frost had a good winner last night at Wolverhampton with Master Of Combat staying on well, and his horses have been going quite well of late despite a strike-rate of just 9% in the last two weeks.

His Spoof is the elder statesman of the field at eight years of age, but he's top weight too from 90 and has enjoyed an excellent campaign with a couple of seconds and a win at Hamilton.

The win in Scotland up the famous Hamilton hill came in heavy going and that was a better class of race at 0-105 level than today's and with his proven soft and heavy form, will be tough to crack.

He produced another fine effort at Haydock last time when finishing second and with Ben Sanderson claiming 3lb, is a big player with the ground very much in his favour.
