Trainer set for a good afternoon with a 44% strike-rate
It won't be a surprise I am heading to Hexham for Saturday, and it won't be a shock either that I fancy Lucinda Russell to have a good afternoon with a couple of good prospects, and her Choose A Copper can get the Hexham ball rolling in the opener.
Russell helped the column to a double last Sunday with a pair of winners of Perth, and she landed two trebles in the space of three days that week, and the 13:35 Novices' Hurdle over 2m doesn't look a strong contest.
Choose A Cooper cost 95k in the spring following a second in an Irish PTP, and it's a pedigree that will see him easily get 2m4f down the line.
Russell's newcomers are usually schooled well and the fact the second favourite for this is a Victor Thompson horse at 6/17.00 tells its own story.
Choose A Copper has been strong too in the betting on the Sportsbook backed from 15/82.88 into 5/42.25, and while not a wild price, I wouldn't be surprised if the horse went into 4/51.80 considering the red-hot form of the yard.
Again, no flash story with the second pick once again from the Kinross stable, and the chase debut of Step Above at Hexham can be a winning one at 15/82.88 - another Russell strong fav on the Sportsbook.
The 6yo wasted no time over hurdles with just a pair of runs - winning once at Ayr and finishing second when favourite on his second outing.
He looked a good staying prospect winning last November on the west coast when beating Gordon Elliott's odds-on fav Step Above that day, and the pair were 23L clear of the third. Step Above is exposed but did win a Leopardstown handicap hurdle subsequently.
Step Above finished second in December under a penalty and looked every inch a 3m horse, and I do like Ayr form with that long straight translating to Hexham.
Russell is 4-9 at Hexham this term at 44% and has 34 winners at the track in the last five season - 13 ahead of her next rival Nicky Richards.
The selection has gone well fresh in his light career to date and I would be staggered if Russell didn't come away from Hexham with at least a couple of winners today.
