Alan Dudman is banking on a good day for trainer Lucinda Russell, and he likes two of her runners in Scotland on Tuesday...

  • Mark low for handicap debut in first leg

  • Indian Louis can follow up after Musselburgh

Ayr - 13:45: Back Fiveafterfour

I've certainly missed the northern and Scottish jumps' meetings what with all the abandonments on the calendar, so Ayr takes preference today, and like usual with me, Lucinda Russell has plenty of good chances on the card that I like.

The opening 13:45 Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle over 2m4f appeals very much in terms of a trip for Russell's Fiveafterfour, and the 6yo mare goes handicapping for the the first time.

She was a big price at Kelso last time and was beaten 20L by Doyen Du Bar over 2m, that form concerning the winner looked very good, as Doyen Du Bar was in brilliant nick, but did disappoint over fences recently.

Fiveafterfour made a little headway late on, but not many forged any inroads as the winner made all, and with Doyen Du Bar rated 123 in that race, there's nothing of that calibre here and today looks a good opening.

I wasn't surprised to see 7/24.50 into 9/43.25 this morning either on the Sportsbook, as the step up to 2m4f again (having tried it once previously) will suit her.

Patrick Wadge is 3-11 at Ayr this term at 27% with Russell 5-31 for the season at the track.

Ayr - 14:45: Back Indian Louis

Indian Louis is another for Russell today backed in the market - from 11/43.75 into 5/23.50, and his jumping on his chasing debut at Musselburgh last time was very pleasing.

He wasted no time over hurdles with just three runs over 2m, and for his fencing bow at Musselburgh, he made the running up to 2m4f for the first time and scored from a mark of 100.

A rise of 5lb is not punitive in this grade and he does look the type that might be able to go up to 3m at some stage given he's by Mahler.

It's a straightforward selection and gives us 10/111.00 on the double, and that was a big improvement over fences compared to anything he achieved over hurdles in a short space of time.
