Horse Racing Tips: Meade can give us some lucky last joy for Thursday double

Trainer Noel Meade
Trainer Noel Meade could have a say at Leopardstown tonight in the lucky last

Tawalla was a big price single winner at a BSP of 18.98 for Alan yesterday, and he heads to Leopardstown on Thursday in search of a 24/125.00 double...

Leopardstown - 19:00 - Back Yokkell

A big price drifter won for the column as a win single yesterday, with Tawalla going out to a massive 18.98 BSP at Kempton last night. Fifty Sent managed third, so we couldn't pull off the double, which was a real annoyance given the price of Tawalla.

Yokkell from a mark of 69 at Leopardstown tonight should have a say in the fillies' handicap and I was quite surprised to see her dropped 1lb after a fairly decent comeback at the track over 1m last time.

The pace was strong and that set up the race for the closer Chavajod, who came from a long way back and was under pressure entering the straight.

Yokkell had travelled better, and made a sweeping move from the rear too to come into contention down straight, but did come very wide.

Considering that was her first start for 221 days, she should chisel out some improvement again.

She rarely ran a bad race last season and was a model of consistency - including form over 1m2f and 1m4f and she gets on well with apprentice Jamie Powell, who takes over from Colin Keane and is able to claim.

She's versatile ground wise too. Last season's second behind my old favourite Skontonovski was a good effort too, and old Skonto runs on the card at 20:00.

Leopardstown - 20:30 - Back Charlie Luciano

Charlie Luciano was a New York gangster in 1920s, whose nickname was "Lucky", which I suppose is a better moniker than "Unlucky". I've certainly been out of luck at Windsor for the column of late, with Monday's picks both running into traffic problems.

The 4yo ran 6L behind Ado McGuinness' Magnetic North over 1m4f last time, and was sent off market leader too.

The trip was on the short side, but he's certainly a horse that enjoys a drying surface as a he bolted up over hurdles at Killarney earlier in the spring.

Dropped 2lb, and with the excellent Cian MacRedmond claiming 5lb, conditions and trip look ideal tonight. He finished second over CD last July from 64, so from a 4lb lower mark with MacRedmond too, he looks about the right price at 4/15.00.

After a very quiet jumps' campaign, his trainer Noel Meade's horses appear to be in reasonable nick, and Charlie Luciano can also make the running.

Both selections have been backed from 9/25.50 and 11/26.50 into 4/15.00 this morning on the Sportsbook and the 20:30 is an Extra Place Special.
