Can Ado McGuinness add to his 17% strike-rate at Dundalk this term?

Alan Dudman had a first and second yesterday and is playing on the Dundalk card on Friday with two selections under the floodlights...

Dundalk - 19:00: Back A Piece Of Heaven

A good quality 2m Handicap, albeit a rather mixed bag in the 19:00 looks a good punting race.

Firstly, I am keen to oppose Joseph O'Brien's 99-rated Time To Tell, who really has to prove she is worth that sort of rating which seems to be judged on one run. Plus she isn't certain to stay as she was well beaten at the track over 1m4f last time.

Peregrine Run is in the race, but he's a 13-year-old now, so I would rather go with a potential improver here in the shape of A Piece Of Heaven.

He's only five, but hasn't stood much racing with just five career starts so there's at least the unexposed angle. He did win on the Flat during the turf season with a front-running 1m4f victory at Gowran Park and was certainly ridden positively in terms of not worrying about stamina.

Previously he ran well in a good-looking Leopardstown maiden and also competed in the Grade 1 Punchestown Champion Bumper.

He raced at Dundalk last time over 1m4f, once again from the front, and ran well in defeat suggesting a step up in trip might work. That was his first try on the surface and he acted on it with no issues, and considering that was after a 58-day break, he could come on again from that.

Dundalk - 20:00: Back Comfort Line

It's been a while since I included my old chum Ado McGuinness in a column, although I have been kicking myself this week for not backing his Dream Today earlier in the week - a horse I had tipped on numerous occasions without success only for him to pop up at a decent price on Wednesday.

McGuinness has a lot of runners over the winter months and Dundalk, and it's currently 129 for the season - so for him to hold a 17% strike-rate from those numbers is good going.

Comfort Line is so well handicapped from a mark of 60 that I cannot ignore him.

He ran into second last time over CD and he's back again over the extended 1m2f tonight. And while his best form is over shorter, that effort might just open up a few more doors as there will be plenty of races for him in December.

In 2021 he was rated in the 90s and ran in some strong handicaps, so hopefully he can turn the tables on Shining Aitch who beat him last time.
