Gordon form no flash in the pan
Back Goodwin Racing @ 7/2 in the 13:50 at Plumpton
Made In The Woods was the column's seventh single winner of the past week, and backing singles to a BSP would have shown a profit of +21.80 points. If only that second selection had gone in for the double - on more than one occasion.
Monday's action is busy and I like the Plumpton card this afternoon despite the soft conditions, and Goodwin Racing can continue the fine run of form for Chris Gordon.
He was part of a decent winning Gordon double for the column and won a novice at Plumpton last time out in good fashion.
The 6yo had a bit in hand that day, and was worth than the margin of victory considering the steady pace and the trip.
Goodwin Racing is bred to stay well, so 2m5f today looks perfect as there are two 3m winners in his pedigree. He has a penalty today for the Fontwell success and in opposition at 2/1 is Venetia Williams' Hermes Du Gouet, but she's without a winner from her last 20 runners.
Gordon is enjoying good times in Sussex this season and is 8-39 at the track with a 21% strike-rate.
Expect a towering performance from Inferno
Inferno Sacree @ 9/4 in the 16:45 at Plumpton
Trainer Nigel Hawke's team is in good shape too at the moment, and from the last fortnight he's fired in a couple of winners and two places, and his Inferno Sacree has been so impressive of late, it's hard to get away from his chances in the finale at 16:45.
The hurdler has landed back-to-back wins at Plumpton over 2m and 2m2f, and the fitting of headgear and front-running tactics have really paid off for this horse.
He goes hard from the front, and that ability to stay a bit further than today's 2m (he has form over 2m4f) will be crucial given the soft conditions, and he has just the sort of style I like for the track.
Inferno Sacree's two wins have been on good to soft, and good, but he did fare up okay in more testing conditions at the track in January, but the 2m4f found him out - especially with his run style, so I think he'll be fine in the wetter conditions today from a new mark of 92.
