Hexham provides the best opportunities for Alan today with his two selections

Alan Dudman is off to Hexham on Saturday in search of a winning multiple...

Hexham - 16:05 - Back Azof Des Mottes

It may be Derby day at Epsom, but Hexham has always been one of my favourite tracks, and away from all the glitz and glamour, we should get a good run out of Azof Des Mottes towards the backend of the card.

There's a chance George Bewley's 6yo could turn out to be a better chaser judged on his win last time at Kelso on good ground, with a mere 3lb rise for that.

That victory came over 2m6f, and Kelso and Hexham form travels well, as did the horse as he received a ground saving ride on the inside and travelled nicely. His jumping was sound down the straight when the pressure was on and he was always doing enough to win.

He had previously travelled well at Carlisle and was matched in-running at a low of 1.564/7 from 10.64241/25 on decent ground.

Azof Des Mottes certainly looks a horse better on good ground and he'd be reasonably treated on his hurdles' form.

I usually like a Lucinda Russell candidate at Hexham, but her Our Marty in opposition hasn't looked a fluent jumper of a fence so far.

Hexham - 16:40 - Back Just Call Me Al

Just Call Me Al certainly saves his best for Sedgefield, but the veteran does have a couple of things in his favour today at Hexham - notably good ground form and form over further. Just the sort of Hexham horse I like.

And in short, this is a dreadful race despite the numbers. It's also an Extra Place Special on the Sportsbook.

Just Call Me Al wasn't running a bad race at all at Kelso last time before exiting four out, but his last two runs have been on good to soft, and the better ground will suit him today.

He's certainly well handicapped from 85 as last season he was running off 108.

The elder statesman ran a good race in the winter at Catterick over 3m2f in a better standard of handicap, and I am happy to go with him at the price of 11/26.50.

And being called Al, the weight of that dreadful song by Paul Simon has lived with me for many years. At least it was a good video, hopefully my namesake's performance will be as good.
