Horse Racing Tips: Headgear stats a pointer for a wild Kempton multiple

Kempton - 17:50 - Back Intricate Pillar

Two selections running in a handicap for the first time are on the punting list today, starting with the 17:50 and Tom Ward's Intricate Pillar.

Ward has fired in two winners and three seconds from his last 14 runners, and this looks a good starting point for his Awtaad filly, who showed good battling qualities to win her Novice at the track last year.

Her opening mark of 70 looks very low, and while understandable given the close proximity of the second and third to her for her Kempton win (due to the steady pace), she could enjoy a truer test this evening as she was pushed along for that win.

She's been off 203 days, and as one of the 3yos in the line-up won't need to improve an awful lot, and this could be a good piece of placing with the ceiling rating 70 for the race.

Kempton - 20:20 - Back Wild Hurricane

Any headgear angle to explore with trainer Saeed bin Suroor is always worth close inspection, and Wild Hurricane switching to a handicap for the first time with the hood applied looks a good option to take.

Bin Suroor is 25% win and 40% placed with the hood applied, and the place part is even greater with the hood at Kempton at 62% placed.

Wild Hurricane looks hard work already in his career, with just three career starts in three years. Indeed, he was gelded before his first ever run, so he's clearly been quite a handful.

He was matched in defeat in-running at 1.330/100 and 1.51/2 on his first two starts and was a massive BSP of 25.024/1 last time, but still travelled well to go half of that in-play before checking out at Chepstow.

The 5yo has a low mark of 74 and as a son of Dubawi he has a fair bit of size about him. Clearly he's difficult, but the hood could be the miracle worker and I expect him to travel well.
