Horse Racing Tips: Goldie's Baez runs in Sunday Musselburgh each-way double

Trainer Jim Goldie
Trainer Jim Goldie has Baez running today over a shorter trip than usual

Alan Dudman is using the extra places on the Sportsbook for his two bets on the Premier Raceday Sunday card at Musselburgh...

  • Consistent Westmorian down to 5f today

  • Trainer has a fine record at track with sprinters

  • Goldie can expect a good campaign from Baez

Musselburgh - 15:45: Back Westmorian

Musselburgh lost their first Flat meeting of the season recently but no such problems for Sunday's card with the ground a lot better although some showers are forecast.

There are four places up for grabs in terms of an each-way bet on the Sportsbook for the opening 15:45 5f Handicap and Westmorian appeals at the price of 15/28.50 for Grant Tuer.

The 5yo has plenty of 6f and 7f form and drops down to the minimum for the first time since December 2022 when making all to win at Southwell. And he won comfortably that day too.

He's been fairly busy from the winter going into this spring so there are no fitness questions and ran a good race last time at Southwell over 6f from a mark of 75.

In fact he's been a model of consistency since the turn of the year on the All-Weather and went ever so close again at Southwell in March and travelled ever so well and hit 2.1 in-running that day.

Tuer has an excellent record over the 5f at Musselburgh with a win percentage of 22% and a placed record at a massive 56% from his 18 runners.

Musselburgh - 17:15: Back Baez

Another four places with the extra place on the Sportsbook for the wide open Musselburgh 17:15 and Jim Goldie's mare Baez has to be of interest due to her consistency.

The big question mark here is whether she is going to be quick enough for the drop back to 1m5f as she's been racing over 2m and further of late.

She was last seen in September in the Watergate Cup at Chester - a Class 2 race over much further and wasn't beaten far despite being out of the weights.

Her abilities at Chester are not in doubt and she likes that venue as she landed a handicap off 72 in September against a steady pace - so from that run there's hope she might get away with the drop in yards today.

She's a real stayer that keeps on galloping and Jim Goldie has described her as a tough cookie.

Goldie has a 28% placed record at the track from 612 runners and was most progressive last year with four wins - her best at Catterick and she'll enjoy a bit of decent ground too.

I'll take a chance on her in terms of fitness for her first run since last September, but she's well named as a daughter of Sixties Icon, and Baez looks an each-way play.
