Horse Racing Tips: Goldie to fly the flag for Scotland with Ayr each-way double

Trainer Jim Goldie
Jim Goldie has a fine place strike-rate at Ayr over 1m

Alan Dudman heads to Ayr for Thursday and is playing in two of the extra place special races on the Sportsbook for his double...

  • Both selections on Thursday act in heavy

  • Trainer with a 33% placed strike-rate over 1m

  • Tips at 8/19.00 and 5/16.00 in today's Sportsbook multiple

Ayr - 14:10: Back Tilsitt EW

Heavy ground and gloomy weather at Ayr will make Thursday's racing on the west coast seem like winter, and we saw yesterday at Nottingham with horses coming home at wide intervals it wasn't pretty, but Tilsitt looks an each-way punt as he does act in soft ground.

Mike Smith's 6yo usually races over 1m and 1m2f but the trainer took a chance running him over 1m5f recently, and while it wasn't a real searching test, he seemed to get the trip fine and that run has opened up a few more doors.

That stamina could be worth a few pounds today as it could be a long way home, and it could be slow. We should time it with a calendar rather than a stopwatch, as this will be attritional.

The selection has been running in some better races this term, and while he was well beaten in the Carlisle Bell back in June, he's been in 0-85 and 0-95 races, and today is a drop in class.

He won a 0-90 last term over CD from 79 and from a 5lb lower mark and the claim of Owen Lewis with 5lb, he has a few things in his favour. He also wears the first-time visor and tongue tie.

With four places on the Sportsbook for an extra place race, we can back him at 8s, although the 9/110.00 had gone this morning at around 8am.

Ayr - 17:05: Back Banner Road

Another extra place to contend with and the 5/16.00 on Banner Road for Jim Goldie is just about acceptable as an each-way bet in the 17:05, and she's another who has form in testing conditions and won't be lacking for stamina.

She finished second in heavy up the Hamilton hill over 1m1f back in June in a 0-75, and she was a bit unlucky there as she had to come from a lot further back than Shine On Brendan and she's off a 2lb lower mark this afternoon.

Her CD win, and sole victory today came in a dreadful race back in the summer, but the long straight at Ayr suits her and she's in pretty good nick considering she finished second recently at Hamilton.

Goldie over 1m at Ayr has a 33% placed record in terms of a strike-rate and I prefer Banner Road at the price. I have also swerved Tempter Trap for the first time in a while, and he's been backed this morning on the Sportsbook.
