Alan Dudman picks out two horses at Redcar
A rather flat Sunday with a non-runner and Lissen To The Lady's fourth at Kelso yesterday - although she did trade half of her BSP at nearly 11.010/1. Flat being the operative word - with absolutely no UK Flat meetings with quick ground and baking hot conditions.
Monday can hopefully offer up some cheer and I've been sticking with Michael Dods on a few occasions this term, as his horses are in much better nick now than they were at the start of the campaign.
His Sparkling Red very much fits that criteria and she's an unexposed sprinter that enjoyed a good season in 2022.
Her latest return and first run of 2023 last time was a run to completely put a line through. Dods' runners were in need of an outing early on, and at Thirsk, she faced brutally tough heavy ground (times suggested heavy rather than the official soft).
She was beaten 14L, and she's far better than what she showed there.
Dods at Redcar over 5f is 10% win and 28% placed and she took care of a beatable field at Thirsk last term in Novice company easily - making all and loving the decent ground.
The 3yo hails from a very quick family and Group 1 winner Winter Power is in her pedigree.
This is a massive drop in class too, as she faced 0-90 company last time, and she sneaks into a 0-75 here, and I would be staggered if she couldn't win a few races this term over 5f on fast ground.
Dukeman has the look of a standout runner later on the Redcar card, hailing from a top Newmarket yard and looking very much like a horse who could be in lightly here from a mark of 82.
Simon Crisford has some excellent numbers at Redcar, hitting 33% win at the track from his total 27 runners, and a massive 52% placed.
Dukeman hasn't stood much racing as a 4yo with just three career starts, but he has a pedigree that looks ever so illustrious compared to his rivals here as a 500k son of Kingman - and a dam by Sea The Stars, the greatest.
He ran in Novice company at Epsom last autumn and finished second despite appearing not be totally in love with the idea of racing at that quirky venue, but did win his second start at Newcastle looking a nice prospect at the time.
His mark is very attractive here from 82 and with a bit of decent ground, can show some class as an unexposed 4yo.
There's nothing wild about the price, but he was solid from 2/13.00 into 15/82.88 this morning, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go off a bit shorter come race time.
