Horse Racing Tips: Can the Tiger roar for a Southwell Tuesday double at 49/1?

• Three Extra Place Special races on the Sportsbook

• Destinado can be a force off top weight

• Taking a chance on runner back from a break

Southwell - 19:30: Back Destinado

Another second with Darlo Pride makes it a rather frustrating five silver medal places since last Monday, although the ride from Jo Mason on Gustav Graves was an excellent one. So no qualms there.

The three deepest races at Southwell on Tuesday come at the back-end of the card with three Extra Place Specials on the Sportsbook and the 19:30 selection is the top weight Destinado.

He actually beat Velvet Vulcan in a Classified Stakes race at the track over 1m4f in January and won easily, while Velvet Vulcan was a recent winner and is likely to go off shorter in the betting, in fact it was 11/43.75 versus 4/15.00 last night on the Sportsbook.

Destinado backed up that win with another at Lingfield over 1m2f soon after, and he proved his versatility there considering it was a bit of a sprint off a slow-ish pace that day.

Last time out he ran over 2m, but didn't get home with his stamina wilting. He'll be much happier back at 1m3f for Tuesday and this is a poor race.

Southwell - 20:00: Back Tigerten

Trainer Kevin Frost is two-pronged in the second division with Bristol Hill and Tigerten, and my preference is for the latter off a break at a much bigger price - and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the betting as he drifted initially on the Monday when the prices went up.

Tigerten was last seen in October at Catterick in bottomless ground, so fitness will be a question mark.

However, while he hasn't convinced over 2m, he has a fair bit of stamina and has winning form at 1m6f on the level at Salisbury, and I am a fan of horses that stay for Southwell, so the 1m3f shouldn't be a bother.

His last bit of worthwhile form was last spring, but his mark has dropped accordingly considering he was rated nearly 70 at that stage and runs from 54 on Tuesday.

Ben Sanderson also takes off some weight with 3lb, and he might be worth chancing with the stamina in mind.
