We are likely to have soft conditions at Newcastle over the jumps for Tuesday and a card with plenty of runners with four of the six races holding double figure fields.
Chris Grant has a good chance with course specialist Six One Nine and he gained another Newcastle victory in convincing fashion last time when beating Gandhi Maker easily - and that horse has since boosted the form with a win.
A rise of 5lb to 90 shouldn't be too harsh as in this grade, horses are much of a muchness and he's worth a few pounds extra for his form at the track anyway.
Indeed he won this race in 2022 by nearly 10L when the ground was decent, so I wouldn't mind it drying out before Tuesday even though he has some form on soft. He's a good jumper and still enthusiastic in this grade.
I am a bit of a glutton for punishment with Marown - a chaser I am attracted to constantly like a moth to a light, but with two seconds this term, he needs to start adding to his paltry return of just two wins over fences (with eight seconds).
He does have 6L to find with Readysteadybeau from their Ayr meeting in December in soft conditions. He travelled like the best horse in that race and hit 2.08 in-running from his pre-race price of 7/18.00, but his lack of race fitness told and he was brushed aside.
The 10yo hasn't quite lived up to his novice days as he finished second in a Grade 2 at Haydock, but he's on a good mark and a nice long finish over 3m at Newcastle will suit him today with match fitness - and 3m is by far his best trip.
While it was a poor weekend for trainer Nicky Richards, whose Famous Bridge ran no sort of race at Doncaster in the big chase event, the yard are 2-9 at the track this season at 22%.
