Gosden handicapper progressive at Wolverhampton
Brave Kingdom has been highly progressive for the Paul Nicholls yard and he's fancied to continue his progression in the Grade 2 Reynoldstown Novices' Chase at Ascot this afternoon.
Beaten just once under Rules, that coming in a Grade 2 hurdle at Sandon in 2021, this son of Brave Mansonnien missed a good chunk of time not long after but returned from a 690-day layoff to take Plumpton novice chase in good style in November.
The selection followed up in a similar contest at Newbury last time, where once again his slick and precise jumping was a feature on his way to a decisive success.
The mare Apple Away looks one of the main dangers, and she should find he sex allowance a help, while Kilbeg King is another to consider, but I'm happy to side with Brave Kingdom to make the step up in grade.
It's often worth taking the hint when the John & Thady Gosden keep a handicapper in training as a four-year-old, and they'll no doubt be expecting to win a good prize or two this coming turf season with Vaguely Royal.
Before that, though, this highly-progressive son of Galileo can complete an all-weather hat-trick in this good-quality class 2 handicap at Dunstall Park.
Vaguely Royal look a turf maiden at Doncaster back in June, but his career really started to take off when switched to synthetics in November, where he took a Newcastle handicap in a good time.
He followed that up with success in a similar contest over this C&D last time, beating Graphite and subsequent winner Oneforthegutter with plenty in hand over the official one-length winning margin.
There are a few dangers, with Max Vega and Nolton Cross heading them, but neither has the unexposed profile of Vaguely Royal and he can continue his winning run.
