Lady Percival for Hughie Morrison looks the most interesting runner tonight at Salisbury

Lady Percival looks the best bet for Alan Dudman today, and he is backing the stayer for a win at Salisbury...

  • Expect more forward tactics at Carlisle

  • Morrison has a stayer of interest at Salisbury

  • Friday's two selections pay out 27/128.00 in a double

Carlisle - 16:00 - Back Temper Trap

Tosen Wish's second yesterday was the best we could manage in pursuit of the double, and a couple of runner-up selections recently have been frustrating - especially with how Kempton rode on Wednesday and Compliant's second.

Friday is a chance for redemption with Temper Trap, who I managed to get beat at Beverley recently, and stopped his winning win as he was going for the four-timer there.

He was quickly turned out at Thirsk last time where he finished fourth, but it was a poor ride on him that afternoon in a hopeless position held up too far off the pace.

The 6yo was luckless - he was awkward breaking away and met trouble late in the race behind a wall of horses. He certainly showed he can win again from his current mark of 68 which has no kicked in.

A smaller field today should in theory mean less trouble in-running and he has winning form at the track too.

Back Temper Trap @ 9/25.50

Salisbury - 19:43 - Back Lady Percival

A real mixed bag for the 1m6f stayers' handicap to close the Salisbury card, and while the skies are grey, it's unlikely that the rain will be piercing the gloom as the forecast is for a relatively dry evening.

Hughie Morrison's Lady Percival looks the most interesting runner in this at 4/15.00, simply as she's only had one start this season and comes into the race from a different angle.

She ran two weeks ago for the first time since December, and it looked very much a run with something in mind down the line as different tactics were employed on the mare, who usually races up with the pace, yet was ridden held up and that plan backfired as it paid to be on the speed at Wolverhampton.

The 5yo ran well in a trio of races at Dunstall Park last winter - winning two and claiming the scalp of a Godolphin horse last October.

As a daughter of Sir Percy, stamina is never an issue with the sire's runners, and considering she looked progressive last winter, she can make up for lost time with a good run this evening.

Back Lady Percival @ 4/15.00
