In what appears to be a very modest maiden hurdle, I'm siding with Getaway Vic to reach the frame, for trainer Mickey Bowen. Loman Lady will most likely start a short-priced favourite following an easy national hunt flat race success at this track eight days ago. Getaway Vic, however, has experience over hurdles, with a pair of seconds in his last two runs. He has shown more than the other rivals in the race and just needs to replicate his current form to finish in the first three.
Night Bear is a course-and-distance winner who has dropped to a rating 6lb below his last winning mark. The Dragon Pulse gelding bounced back to form, returning to this venue, when an excellent second 12 days ago. A low draw is advantageous if wanting to race prominently, and he ought to appreciate the quick surface (all four turf wins on good-to-firm ground).
Coedana holds genuine win credentials in this Listed event over 1m4f. The unexposed and improving four-year-old filly has won two starts from eight outings. She stepped up in class, when a fine second in this grade at Goodwood on reappearance. A subsequent third in Group Three company at Carlisle was a further sign that she has more to offer, especially stepping up to this trip. I think she can fill at least a place.
I believe that Trojan Soldier can continue his outstanding run of form having landed a hat-trick in a 2m1f handicap at this course, with a 5lb rise possibly not enough to prevent further improvement. His upwardly-mobile profile has been evident with stepping up in distance, proving to be a thorough stayer, coupled with the addition of cheekpieces (3-3 sporting them). His opposition all have some kind of question to answer, and he is the reliable, progressive type in the line-up.
