Book of Life hasn't won since early last year when with Ian Williams but has made the frame numerous times for Pat Morris this year and looked unlucky not win his latest start at Wolverhampton last week.

Still going well when badly hampered early in the straight, he might have managed to pull the race out of the fire only to meet further trouble in the last hundred yards and finish a close third.

With Jason Hart taking over from a 7 lb claimer, Book of Life is clearly on a good mark if things drop right for him as he's fully 5 lb clear in the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.

Kevin Ryan's Battle Fever was last in action just under a fortnight ago at York where he ran a cracker in second in the Harry's Half Million sales race, albeit proving no match for Group 1-winning filly Sun Goddess.

He was anything but disgraced in the circumstances in that big field, leading before the winner pulled clear, and the handicapper looks to have given him a fair mark of 88 for his first nursery.

Battle Fever made a good impression when getting off the mark in a novice at Thirsk earlier in August and, giving weight to inferior rivals this time, he heads the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings by 2 lb.

The forward-going Blakefell takes the eye at the foot of the weights in Kempton's seven-furlong contest, and it looks only a matter of time before he manages to get his head in front in a handicap.

He went closest over this evening's course and distance on his penultimate start under Silvestre de Sousa (back on board here) when getting edged out by a short head by the useful Victory Ace.

Blakefell was then beaten a neck by Two Commanders at Musselburgh last week, earning the 'Horse In Focus' flag, and can gain compensation from 3 lb clear in the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings.
