Windsor selection back down to an attractive handicap mark
Previously trained by the recently retired Keith Dalgleish, Rory The Cat has made a fine start to life with the Lucinda Russell yard and is taken to win his third race for the stable in the Ayr Finale on Monday.
He'd started off life in handicaps for his previous stable off a stiff enough mark, but had gradually been edging down the weights before landing his first success (on only second start for current yard) at Beverley in June.
The 3-y-o gelding then ran really well to finish second over today's C&D ahead of a return to Beverley last time, where he struck again after overcoming some trouble in running.
Still reasonably handicapped off 59, Rory The Cat looks the type to continue giving a good account for a while yet.
The front-running Lawn Ranger is in better heart than his recent form figures suggest, and he has a strong chance of making all under a potentially uncontested lead in the 1m 2f handicap that closes Windsor's Monday night card.
He made all the running on the way to victory over tonight's C&D back in April, where the ground was really testing, something that should stand him in good stead with similarly testing conditions expected this time.
Michael Attwater's 8-y-o has just ended up doing too much too soon up front on his last couple of starts, facing pace pressure each time.
That hopefully won't be an issue this time around and I'm hoping Rab Havlin can dictate on the sharp end before kicking away late on.
It's also encouraging that Lawn Ranger now gets to race off his last winning mark, the handicapper showing some leniency despite the selection having had excuses of late.
