Alan Dudman is playing a 65/1 Sportsbook double on Sunday
More to come from Tiger over 2m
Back Tiger Spirit @ 9/1 in the 16:20 at Southwell
Sunday's action at Southwell presents a difficult card but at least the final two races are Extra Place Special ones.
Tiger Spirit was on the drift this morning and was out to 9/1 at one stage and certainly represents a good each-way bet considering she stayed so well to win over CD last time.
This 2m contest has a stack of winners at the distance but we know Tiger Spirit has got plenty of stamina as she received the perfect Southwell ride last time. She sat just off the pace in a race where the sectionals received a "fast" upgrade, and once she was switched nearest to the stands' side, her effort was strong. Indeed, her final three furlongs were all sub 13 seconds and she was the only one to dip under 13 seconds in the final furlong.
Her previous third was another race that produced some sound sectionals, and considering she was sent off 16/1 last time to win, I don't mind her drift this morning.
She is lightly raced on the All-Weather and certainly looked a stayer winning over 2m at Redcar in the summer and there could be a little more to come from her off a mark of 61.
Her trainer Michael Herrington has had five winners from 22 runners at 23%, all with older horses.
Monkey looks a funky pick for Shaw
Back Mr Funky Monkey @ 6/1 in the 16:50 at Southwell
While we had Betfair Super Saturday at Newbury yesterday, having a Classified Stakes race at the tail of the card at Southwell hardly makes it Super Sunday, but at least there are plenty of runners for another Extra Place Special and Mr Funky Monkey looks ready for a crack at 6f today, and that's the angle with him.
He ran over 5f in basement grade last time behind the experienced Ustath, but it looked too sharp for him on that occasion and he struggled to keep tabs on the leaders and was hard under pressure with 2f to go down the straight. His jockey that day Luke Morris also had him placed on the inside and was a in poor position as Ustath bolted up near side.
Previously his efforts around Wolverhampton and Chelmsford were again on the quick side for him and he came home reasonably well at Wolves in an okay time for the grade. He also met trouble at the Essex venue and the way he finished on the outside made a case that 6f and the extra distance for today will suit him.
Jacquelina looks the obvious one purely on the basis she is unexposed, but she was fourth in a terrible race at Wolverhampton last time.
