Alan Dudman had a single winner with Warren Point at 9/4 yesterday and he previews two races at Newcastle for Tuesday and an each-way double...
- A 9/4 single winner yesterday
- Tea Garden unexposed for Extra Place Special
- Al Dudman is backing a 32/1 each-way Sportsbook double on Tuesday at Newcastle
Angel a glorious pick for the Nursery?
Back Glorious Angel @ 7.06/1 in the 16:45 at Newcastle
Yesterday for the column it was very much a case of boom and bust. Boom was the win with Warren Point who was well backed and landed the feature Floodlit Stakes for a single. Amleto however took the walk of all walks in the market from 4/1 in the morning to a BSP of 22.021/1 and was completely clueless.
That is the risk with newcomer backing, but it's rare a Sea The Stars will run so green on debut. It's fair to say he might not be a Derby horse. He's a brother to Sea Of Class, although Elvis' brother was a baker.
On with Newcastle tonight and Glorious Angel can give Grant Tuer another winner in the north east as one of the leading trainers at the track this term.
Tuer has 15 winners, two ahead of his nearest rival and a massive profit to a £1 stake of nearly 58.0 this term.
Glorious Angel wasn't really progressing for Hugo Palmer, and has made the switch to Tuer since a Class 2 run at Nottingham last time. A race where she came from far too back.
She looks worth a try at 7f and has a good draw in eight. The 2yo has been in better races this season and just about makes an each-way price too.
Howarth a good booking for Tea Garden
Back Tea Garden @ 4.57/2 in the 18:45 at Newcastle
The 7f Handicap at 18:45 is one of the larger-stocked fields with 13 runners and an Extra Place Special, and while a couple appealed at bigger prices - in particular Elladora, the draw has swayed me for this. Although you can now play two in the same race to Place on the Sportsbook with a multiple, and with four to go to war with, it's a way of attacking this.
However, Elladora with a low draw puts me off, but Tea Garden is in 14, and high numbers on the straight track for me at Newcastle are a must.
Alex French trains the selection, and she is one of the unexposed ones against some well-treated rivals, but she could improve after six starts.
She has been missing the break of late, and while that wasn't a problem at Kempton last time over 7f as the front three took advantage of a pace collapse, she had to switch to the cutaway where as the winner came from a wider position.
The 4yo looks as though she is worth a go at 1m, and sticking at a stiff 7f like Newcastle shouldn't be an issue. This is low grade stuff and there could be a little scope from her mark of 53, and Christian Howarth is an apprentice I am a fan of.
Howarth has been good at Newcastle too this term with 3-10 at 30% and a level stakes profit of +13.00.
