Alan Dudman picked out his 18th winner in the last 17 days yesterday with 6/1 scorer Shaara, and he is off to Chelmsford on Thursday for a 5/1 Sportsbook multiple...
Appleby's juvenile the appointed selection
Back Appointed One @ 2.01/1 in the 18:00 at Chelmsford
Charlie Appleby's strength in depth in the 2yo department got another airing yesterday at Sandown with juvenile victories for both Striking Star and Local Dynasty to take his tally in that department this year to 36-88 at around 40%. Winning with near-enough every other runner is quite frankly ridiculous.
I am hoping those stats are going to be maintained with Appointed One 2.01/1, who has the potential to be backed for this and go under Evens.
The main market rival Harry Brown 4.03/1 is only rated 79 and not progressing in five starts, and two of those have seen him dip odds-on in-play. However, he hasn't gone lower than 1.68/13 in-running when losing, so it's not as if he is almost winning and he looks beatable.
Appointed One made his debut at Chelmsford 53 days ago, in a race where they went hell for leather in the opening stages, but he was in a hapless position out wide from a horrendous draw, and done remarkably well to get second considering his wide path that put him closer to Basildon. Or Bas Vegas.
One thing was rather noticeable that day was the horrendous amount of kick-back Appointed One faced, which wouldn't have been easy for his first start as he was never able to lead.
The Bullion Bomber used his experience to win that race, a horse who had been pitched into an Ascot contest on debut.
The trainer with William Buick has a 24% win and 50% place record together at the Essex circuit, and at least drawn in six is better than last time.
Saaed stats over 6f look very impressive
Back City Walk @ 3.259/4 in the 19:00 at Chelmsford
Yesterday's two picks for the Daily Racing Multiple gave us a winner and a fourth, so while the double was missed, Shaara's 6/1 win in the John Musker took the column's winning run to 18 single winners in 17 days - I am hoping we can hit 20 today with both selections.
I was struggling to find anything at Ayr, although with the big fields there you can play two to place in the same race on the Sportsbook using the multiple feature. While Newcastle is left for Daryl Carter, and he's shown a profit this year again and is well worth checking out for tonight by clicking here to read.
City Walk is an obvious one, and this would be a "home question" in Question In Sport, as the 5yo simply looks a better horse on the AW with a record of 2-4 for Saaed bin Suroor.
He was well beaten at York last time at Listed level, but I have said on many occasions, York form is a mystery and runners can get lost there.
Previously he had beaten Dakota Gold in the Gosforth Park Cup at Newcastle running 10.67 and 10.71 sectionals in the hottest part of the race, which considering the track was riding slow was some feat. The 101-rated Dakota Gold is a fine sprinter, and Makanah (who is rated 102) was back in third.
He has no problems going back to 6f as a previous CD winner. His victory on that occasion saw him receive a picture perfect ride tucked on the inside, and once down the straight took aim at the winner and asserted very strongly to win by 2L as he really picked up well from the furlong marker.
The trainer's stats at Chelmsford for 6f races are very impressive with 10-32 at 31% and a placed strike-rate of 44%. He was a little easy in the betting this morning from 15/8 to 9/4, but I don't mind that all.
